Job Description
What Youll DoYoull take worn, damaged, or out-of-spec hydraulic cylinder components and restore them to exacting standards. This role is equal parts precision, judgment, and craftsmanship.
Youre not just running machines, youre making decisions that directly impact performance, reliability, and whether a cylinder goes back into service or fails in the field.
What This Role Looks Like Day-to-DaySet up and operate manual and CNC equipment including lathes, mills, and honing machinesMachine and restore critical components such as barrels, rods, pistons, and glandsPerform barrel boring and honing to achieve proper finishes and sealing surfacesTurn, polish, and prep rods for chrome or repair processesCut and restore threads (internal and external) to specMachine and modify heads and pistons for proper fit and functionMeasure everything, micrometers, bore gauges, indicators, calipers, no guessworkHold tight tolerances to ensure proper sealing, alignment, and long-term performanceEvaluate components and determine whether they can be repaired or need replacementSet speeds, feeds, coolant flow, and depth of cut based on material and job requirementsEdit and adjust CNC programs to achieve the correct resultsRun trial setups and make adjustments to ensure accuracy before full productionMonitor machine operation and correct issues before they become scrapWhat Makes You a Strong FitYoure a seasoned machinist who knows how to hit tight tolerances consistentlyYou understand how machining decisions impact sealing, wear, and performanceYou can read prints, drawings, and specs without needing them explainedYou know how to adjust on the fly when material or conditions changeYouve worked with large components and arent intimidated by size or complexityYou take pride in precision and dont cut corners to hit numbersExperience Were Looking ForHigh school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred10+ years of machining experience, ideally with hydraulic cylinders or heavy equipmentStrong manual machining background (lathe and mill experience required)CNC experience with the ability to edit programsExperience with honing, thread repair, and cylinder-specific processesExperience machining large components (up to 2,000 lbs and 15 ft)Strong understanding of speeds, feeds, tooling, and material behaviorProficient with precision measurement tools and inspection practicesWorking knowledge of hydraulic cylinder function and common failure modesForklift experience is a plusHow Youll Contribute Beyond the MachineWork closely with assembly, engineering, and quality to solve machining challengesSupport weld repair and post-weld machining as neededHelp identify root causes of failures and improve repair processesShare your knowledge and help develop less experienced machinistsSet the standard for quality, accountability, and craftsmanship on the floorWork EnvironmentThis is a heavy manufacturing environment. Youll be working around moving equipment, airborne particles, fumes, and occasional heat. Its loud, its hands-on, and it requires focus.
