Job Description

Environmental Health & Safety Specialist —
Precast Manufacturing Location:
Petersburg, VA — Tindall plant
Language:
English/Spanish bilingual candidates are preferred A day in your role You start your morning with a floor walk, checking crane paths, material staging, and housekeeping. A quick huddle becomes a toolbox talk where you spotlight a recent near-miss and reinforce lockout and safe rigging practices. Before lunch, you review incident data, confirm eyewash stations are inspection-ready, and update training completions. Your afternoon is spent auditing confined space procedures, refreshing SDS libraries, and coaching operators on safe material handling. You finish the day by logging findings, prioritizing corrective actions, and scheduling next week's safety committee agenda. What you'll own Perform recurring safety inspections and full-scope audits across equipment, materials movement, and work areas. Lead incident and near-miss investigations, determine root causes, and drive effective corrective and preventive actions.
Maintain safety documentation:
SDS inventory, training records, inspection logs, and action trackers. Assess hazards specific to precast operations, including crane and rigging activities, material handling, confined spaces, and chemical exposure.
Design and deliver training:
new-hire safety orientation, equipment operator instruction, and emergency response drills. Facilitate toolbox talks and coordinate safety committee meetings to strengthen engagement. Ensure first aid kits, eyewash stations, and other emergency resources are compliant, accessible, and inspected on schedule. Ensure adherence to
OSHA 1910
General Industry standards and other applicable regulations. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or a closely related field preferred. 1-3 years of safety experience in a manufacturing environment. Proven ability to work independently and manage priorities. Strong command of OSHA requirements and related regulatory frameworks for manufacturing. Excellent communication skills across all levels of the organization.
