~$80M Mechanical Construction Project About the Role We are seeking an experienced Quality Control (QC) Manager to lead mechanical quality efforts on a large, high‑profile construction project supporting laboratories and preclinical manufacturing facilities. This role plays a critical leadership position on an approximately $80M mechanical buildout, overseeing HVAC, process piping, utilities, and GMP‑controlled environments. As the Mechanical QC Manager, you will own quality performance from fabrication through construction and turnover, ensuring all systems meet rigorous industry codes, GMP requirements, and documentation standards. You will work closely with project management, field leadership, inspectors, and commissioning teams to drive quality excellence and successful project delivery. Key Responsibilities Lead all mechanical quality control activities across shop and field operations for a large, complex construction project. Ensure strict compliance with approved contract documents, industry codes, and GMP quality requirements. Perform daily inspections of carbon steel and stainless‑steel welding in accordance with
ASME B31
standards. Oversee valve installation, tagging, and system identification across mechanical systems. Inspect HVAC, utility, and process piping installations and witness pressure testing, flushing, and system performance testing. Coordinate, witness, and document all required mechanical tests throughout the project lifecycle. Conduct detailed field walkdowns utilizing Procore, verifying installations against P&IDs and approved construction drawings. Maintain accurate and current P&IDs, coordinating necessary revisions with project stakeholders. Partner with Project Managers and Superintendents to develop and maintain effective valve tagging and identification programs. Manage material inspection and traceability, including verification of MTRs, heat numbers, and IMER reports. Oversee all welding quality activities, including procedure compliance, welder qualifications, and weld documentation. Coordinate NDE/NDT testing, review weld coupons, and track daily welding activity. Perform drawing reviews, redlines, and collaboration using Bluebeam and Bluebeam Studio. Support digital welding inspection tools and custom QC applications to streamline quality workflows. Enforce Good Documentation Practices (GDP) with real‑time, accurate recordkeeping using Procore, SharePoint, Microsoft tools, and Bluebeam. Lead preparation of Construction Turnover and Turnover Packages (CTOP/TOP), including pressure testing, weld records, and material traceability. Support commissioning activities, including system walkthroughs, punch list resolution, and as‑built documentation. Act as the primary quality liaison between construction, quality inspectors, commissioning teams, and project leadership. Contribute to document control, as‑built development, and site‑wide mechanical quality initiatives. Required Experience & Skills Minimum of 8 years of mechanical quality control experience, ideally within biopharma or life sciences construction. Strong working knowledge of
ASME B31
codes and hygienic piping requirements. Experience operating in GMP‑regulated environments. Proven expertise in welding inspection, material control, and mechanical system quality. Proficiency with Procore for inspections, walkdowns, and quality documentation. Advanced experience using Bluebeam and Bluebeam Studio for drawing review and coordination. Strong skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and SharePoint for reporting and collaboration. Ability to develop and maintain tracking spreadsheets for inspections, testing, and turnover documentation. Experience with digital welding inspection tools or custom QC applications. Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and documentation accuracy. Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with field teams, project management, inspectors, and commissioning partners. Preferred Qualifications AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification. Prior experience on large‑scale pharmaceutical or biotechnology construction projects. Background in piping layout, mechanical system coordination, and MEP interfaces. Experience supporting as‑built documentation and large capital project closeout. Familiarity with construction quality programs and document control processes for inspections and testing records. Work Environment This position is based on an active campus expansion project in Tarrytown, NY, supporting advanced laboratory and preclinical manufacturing facilities. The role combines field and office work, with frequent on‑site presence required for inspections, walkdowns, and testing oversight. You will work in a fast‑paced, safety‑focused environment that values technical rigor, documentation excellence, and collaboration. Standard construction hours apply, with flexibility as needed to support testing, inspections, and key project milestones. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tarrytown, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $55.00/hr.
