Job Description

Quality Control (QC) Inspector - ASME Shop NEEDED!! We are looking to hire a ASME Shop QC Inspector for a job in West Columbia, SC. This is a LONG-TERM/full time position. The right candidate must be detail-oriented and proactive. In this vital role, you will ensure that all products meet strict quality standards and comply with industry regulations. Your keen eye for detail, combined with your expertise in quality systems and measurement tools, will help maintain the integrity of our products and uphold our commitment to excellence. Duties Perform incoming, in‑process, and final inspections of materials, components, welds, and assemblies Verify compliance with applicable ASME Codes, including but not limited to: ASME Section VIII (Pressure Vessels), ASME Section IX (Welding & Brazing Qualifications), and
ASME B31.1 / B31.3
(Piping, if applicable) Read and interpret schematics and blueprints to determine project requirements. Ensure fabrication activities meet approved drawings, WPSs, PQRs, and traveler packages. Conduct visual weld inspections and dimensional checks. Maintain a clean and organized work area, following all safety protocols. Collaborate with team members to complete projects efficiently and on time. Verify heat treatment, hydrostatic testing, and nameplate data as required. Documentation & Records Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot welding equipment. Experience in fabricating metal components and working with ductwork is preferred. Verify Material Test Reports (MTRs) and ensure material traceability Complete and maintain inspection reports, weld maps, checklists, and data books. Document and track Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) and corrective actions. Ensure accurate compilation of Manufacturer's Data Reports (MDRs). Qualifications Education & Experience High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade education preferred. Minimum 3-5 years experience in an ASME code fabrication environment. Experience inspecting pressure vessels, piping, boilers, or structural weldments. Certifications & Knowledge (Required) ASME Code knowledge (Sections VIII, IX, and applicable piping codes). AWS CWI or equivalent weld inspection certification (preferred). NDE certification (VT required;
MT/PT/UT/RT
a plus). Understanding of ISO 9001 or similar quality systems (helpful). Skills Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Working knowledge of inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges). Proficient in written documentation and basic computer skills. Strong attention to detail and ability to enforce quality standards objectively. Physical & Work Environment Requirements Ability to work in a manufacturing/shop environment. Capable of standing, walking, bending, and climbing for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as required. Use of appropriate PPE according to safety policies. Authority & Responsibility Authority to stop work when nonconformance to code or quality requirements is identified. Responsible for ensuring only compliant work proceeds to the next phase of fabrication. Required to report quality issues to management promptly.
