Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Food Safety & Quality Assurance Coordinator to help lead our efforts in maintaining the highest standards of food safety, quality control, and compliance across our snack manufacturing and co-packing operations. This is a hands-on role responsible for monitoring, documentation, testing, and compliance activities that ensure all products meet regulatory requirements, customer specifications, and company quality standards. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with a passion for food safety who thrives in a production environment and wants to grow within a dynamic, established snack food company. Responsibilities Perform review of pre-shipment samples — visual, organoleptic, COA review, etc. Conduct quality checks on retain products and random items — weight, color, texture, and appearance. Collect and submit samples for third-party microbiological and chemistry testing as needed. Maintain nonconforming product logs and assist with dispositions. Track and trend quality KPIs — defect rates, holds, consumer complaints, supplier non-conformances and manufacturing non-conformances. Communicate non-compliances with suppliers and manufacturers. Participate in mock recall exercises and traceability drills. Assist with shelf life and stability testing programs. Review and file Certificates of Analysis (COAs) from suppliers. Support document control — version management of SOPs, forms, and specifications. Assist with preparation of records for internal and external audits. Assist with label review for accuracy against approved specifications. Support supplier documentation collection — COAs, specs, questionnaires, etc. Communicate quality issues to management in real time. Sample review and preparations as needed. Provide manufacturing plants with required documentation and support. Provide warehouses with support and guidance as needed. Additional tasks may be assigned as needed based on personal growth and business needs. Strong expertise in conducting quality audits and implementing quality assurance programs within manufacturing environments. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, Nutrition, or related field — OR an Associate's degree with 2+ years of relevant food manufacturing experience. 1-3 years of experience in food manufacturing QA, food safety, or a related role. Working knowledge of HACCP principles and critical control point monitoring. Familiarity with
FDA FSMA
regulations and GMPs (21 CFR Part 110/117). Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation. Proficiency in Microsoft Office — Excel, Word, and Outlook. Preferred PCQI certification (or willingness to obtain within 6 months of hire). HACCP certification (or willingness to obtain). Experience with
SQF, BRC, FSSC
22000 or other GFSI food safety management systems. Experience in snack food, dried fruit/vegetable, or produce manufacturing. Knowledge of organic (NOP) and Non-GMO certification requirements. Experience with dehydration, baking, or extrusion manufacturing processes. Core Competencies Highly organized with strong attention to detail and follow-through. Comfortable working independently and cross-functionally with operations, and sales. Clear written and verbal communicator — able to document precisely and report concisely. Able to prioritize and stay composed in a fast-paced production environment. Proactive — identifies and flags issues early rather than waiting. Comfortable on the production floor daily — this is a hands-on role. Committed to food safety culture — models GMP compliance at all times. Able to handle multiple projects at any given time and able to pivot as needed. Working Conditions Manufacturing facility exposure — noise, temperature variation, and allergen environments. Occasional travel to co-packing or supplier facilities (up to 10%) May require early morning, evening, or weekend coverage depending on production schedule.
