Full-time SUMMARY:
The SLH Supervisor, Quality Control and Quality Assurance (QCQA) is responsible for the day to day management of first their department and then assist in smooth operation of the lab and the staff of all sections of the lab. The supervisor must perform all testing in his/her department and demonstrate the ability to monitor through quality control the performance of correct testing in the particular section.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
NOTE:
The following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification. 1. Additional duties as specified by lab manager and/or lab director. Performs all the job functions and meets all responsibilities of Clinical Laboratory Scientists and in addition, directs performance of tests. This includes, obtaining capillary, venous, and arterial blood specimens; performing all clinical chemistry, hematology, serologic, transfusion services, microbiology, urinalysis, coagulation and other body fluid testing (based on their departmental training); evaluating the validity of results, and reporting/maintaining necessary records. Has the ability to result accurate proficiency testing in the computer system. 2. Assist CLS technical supervisor in completing annual employee evaluations. Assist CLS technical supervisor in training new employees. Serve as a backup to the CLS technical supervisor. 3. Assists clinical laboratory scientists, laboratory assistants, and phlebotomists. Responsible for cleaning, maintenance, and correct operation of equipment. Responsible for prompt issuance of accurate reports. 4. Complies with hospital policies and all the regulatory agencies' requirements. 5. Directs workflow and assures pending list reviewed and is current. Checks, maintains, and requests supplies needed for operation of department. Evaluates new tests for use by department. Maintains, writes, and updates procedure manual (s) or files. Responsible for communicating changes and/or updates in department procedures. 6. Environment of Care (EOC) maintenance. Monitor and sign staff competency for required personnel. Manage and maintain biannual completion of calibration verification/linearity and instrument comparisons. 7. Manage and completes monthly Levey-Jennings review for reportable test in the laboratory. Establishes parameters for acceptable levels of analytic performance and ensuring that these levels be maintained throughout the entire testing process. 8. Manage and maintain biannual patient comparisons on all analyzers for all tests at SLH. Work with manager and ancillary staff to ensure send out test completion, proper test codes built, and interface(s) failures are corrected. 9. Manage biannual pipette calibration. Writes, maintains, and enforces QC procedures. Oversee regulatory compliance and competency related to Point-of-Care testing. Work with Lab Information System (LIS) analyst to ensure proper test code build and transmission to the LIS. 10. Manage lab control ordering, lot-to-lot verification, and go-live. Keep orderly records in QC/QA for all analyzers. Review and troubleshoot lab temperature control and refrigeration. Maintain and compile monthly Quality Improvement (QI) metrics and report to manager and/or hospital regulatory committees. Report to hospital committees when necessary. 11. Performs other duties as assigned. 12. Review and sign laboratory preventative maintenance records from technical sections. Maintenance of proficiency testing program, including: ordering, receiving, assignment, entry, binder maintenance, and insufficient result response preparation for Laboratory Medical Director. 13. Works well with others in the laboratory and throughout the hospital.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.
Preferred Experience:
One year of supervisory experience in a hospital clinical laboratory. Three to five years previous related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
Current California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License.
Pay Range:
$57.99 - $96.66 / Hour The pay range for this position reflects the base pay scale for the role at Alameda Health System. Final compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, departmental equity, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and the operational needs of the organization.
