Channel Fish has grown and developed from a local Boston fish processor of Cod and Haddock, to a nationwide seafood distributor, providing a wide variety of fresh and frozen seafood products. Building long term partnerships with customers, suppliers, and employees About the role Channel Fish Processing is seeking a Director of Quality Assurance to lead the company's food safety and quality programs across all operations. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and certification standards while advancing a culture of quality, consistency, and continuous improvement. The Director of QA will serve as a strategic partner to Operations and Leadership, ensuring that quality and food safety are effectively integrated into daily operations while supporting the company's growth and performance objectives. Key Responsibilities Food Safety & Regulatory Compliance Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, including FDA, USDA, FSMA, and HACCP standards Maintain and oversee GFSI certification programs (e.g., BRC, SQF ) Lead all internal, external, and regulatory audits, ensuring ongoing audit readiness Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and third-party auditors Quality Systems & Program Leadership Oversee the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS) Ensure effective documentation practices, including SOPs, work instructions, and quality records Manage programs related to product specifications, labeling compliance, traceability, and supplier quality Establish and maintain processes for deviation management, corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and root cause analysis Leadership & Team Development Provide leadership and direction to the QA team, including Managers, Supervisors, and Technicians Foster a high-performance team environment through coaching, development, and clear accountability Partner with Human Resources on talent acquisition, training, and performance management Promote consistency in the application of quality standards and practices across all shifts and departments Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with Operations, Production, and Supply Chain teams to ensure alignment between quality standards and operational execution Provide guidance on product quality, food safety, and compliance-related decisions Support business initiatives by integrating quality considerations into process improvements and new product development Training & Culture Development Oversee the development and delivery of food safety and quality training programs, including GMP and HACCP training Ensure training programs are documented, effective, and aligned with regulatory and certification requirements Promote a company-wide culture of quality, food safety, and continuous improvement Continuous Improvement & Performance Management Establish and monitor key quality performance indicators (KPIs) to drive accountability and improvement Identify opportunities to enhance product quality, reduce non-conformances, and improve operational efficiency Lead initiatives that support continuous improvement and risk mitigation across the organization Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or a related field (or equivalent experience) 8-12+ years of progressive experience in quality assurance within food manufacturing 5+ years of leadership experience managing QA teams in a production environment Strong knowledge of
HACCP, FSMA, FDA, USDA
, and GFSI standards (BRC or SQF preferred) Demonstrated experience leading audits and maintaining certification standards Experience in high-volume, fast-paced manufacturing environments

$150,000 - $175,000 per year (This represents the annual salary range the company reasonably expects to pay for this position in Massachusetts.)
