Job Description:
Sugar Producer & Refinery Position Summary We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Quality Assurance Manager to lead all quality and food safety initiatives for our sugar production and refining operations. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all regulatory, customer, and internal quality standards while driving continuous improvement across manufacturing processes, laboratory operations, sanitation programs, and product consistency. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, technical expertise in food manufacturing quality systems, and a hands-on approach to maintaining operational excellence within a fast-paced production environment. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage all Quality Assurance and Food Safety programs within the sugar refinery and production facility. Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements including FDA, USDA, OSHA, GMP, HACCP, SQF/BRC, and customer specifications. Oversee laboratory testing programs for raw materials, in-process production, and finished goods. Develop, implement, and maintain quality control procedures, SOPs, and documentation systems. Monitor production processes to ensure product consistency, food safety, and operational efficiency. Manage internal audits, third-party audits, customer audits, and regulatory inspections. Investigate quality issues, root cause analyses, customer complaints, and non-conformance reports while implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA). Partner closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Procurement, and Supply Chain teams to improve product quality and plant performance. Lead sanitation verification and environmental monitoring programs. Train and mentor quality staff and plant personnel on food safety, quality standards, and best practices. Track and report quality metrics, KPIs, trends, and continuous improvement initiatives to senior leadership. Support new product development, process improvements, and operational optimization projects.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, Chemical Engineering, or related field preferred. 5+ years of Quality Assurance leadership experience within food manufacturing, sugar refining, ingredient production, or related process manufacturing industries. Strong understanding of
GMP, HACCP, SQF, FDA
regulations, and food safety management systems. Experience managing laboratory operations and quality testing procedures. Knowledge of sugar refining processes, crystallization, filtration, evaporation, or related food processing operations is highly preferred. Proven leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities. Experience leading audits and regulatory inspections. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and quality management systems (QMS). Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, HACCP, or SQF certifications are a plus. Preferred Skills Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Excellent organizational and documentation skills. Ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive accountability. Commitment to workplace safety, food safety, and continuous improvement culture.
