Job Description

Job Title:
Quality Control Manager Job Description The Quality Control Manager leads day-to-day quality operations on the production floor in a hands-on capacity. This role ensures that every product leaving the facility meets internal standards and customer specifications, supported by robust documentation, processes, and audits. The position oversees a small quality control team, drives continuous improvement, and partners closely with production and operations to resolve quality issues efficiently and effectively. Responsibilities Oversee all quality control activities on the production floor to ensure products meet internal standards and customer specifications before shipment. Lead, develop, and direct a small quality control team across daily operations, providing guidance, support, and clear priorities. Maintain and manage all quality documentation, including inspection records, non-conformance reports, and corrective action records. Plan, perform, and document internal audits to verify compliance with established quality processes and standards. Coordinate and support external and customer audits, ensuring required documentation and evidence are prepared and available. Identify quality issues early in the production process, investigate root causes, and drive effective corrective and preventive actions. Partner closely with production and operations teams to resolve quality concerns while minimizing disruption to workflow. Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, customer requirements, and internal quality procedures. Review and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and standards to confirm that products conform to requirements. Promote a culture of quality on the production floor through visible, hands-on leadership and consistent follow-up. Monitor quality trends, highlight recurring issues, and recommend process improvements to enhance product quality and reduce defects. Essential Skills Proven experience in a quality control leadership role, preferably within steel, metals, or heavy manufacturing environments. Strong working knowledge of quality control documentation practices, including inspection records, non-conformance reports, and corrective actions. Practical experience with audit processes, including planning, executing, and documenting internal audits. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and relevant standards. Hands-on, floor-present leadership style with a strong attention to detail and a focus on product quality. Clear and effective communication skills with the ability to work across production, operations, and management teams. Demonstrated ability to identify root causes of quality issues and implement corrective and preventive actions. Experience in production supervision or production management within a manufacturing setting. Experience in steel fabrication or similar heavy manufacturing processes. No degree required; relevant experience and a proven track record of delivering quality results are essential. Additional Skills & Qualifications Familiarity with quality management systems or similar structured quality frameworks. Experience working in open-air, non-climate-controlled warehouse or production environments. Strong organizational skills for managing multiple quality tasks, audits, and documentation requirements. Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to support continuous improvement initiatives. Why Work Here? Join a manufacturing environment where hands-on leadership and real-world results matter more than formal credentials. You will have the opportunity to shape quality practices on the production floor, work closely with operations to make visible improvements, and build a track record of measurable impact. The role offers a high level of ownership, direct involvement in day-to-day operations, and the chance to grow your expertise in steel, metals, or heavy manufacturing within a supportive and collaborative culture. Work Environment This role is based primarily on the production floor in an open-air, non-climate-controlled warehouse environment. The Quality Control Manager spends the majority of the time on the floor, closely monitoring products and processes to ensure quality before shipment.
