Job Description

The Quality Assurance (QA) Supervisor is responsible for the execution, oversight, and continuous improvement of Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) programs on the production floor. This role provides direct leadership to QA personnel, ensuring consistent application of food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements across all shifts. The QA Supervisor serves as the primary point of contact for daily QA operations, driving accountability, supporting cross-functional communication, and ensuring timely resolution of quality and food safety issues. This position maintains a strong floor presence, leads verification activities, and ensures that sanitation, environmental monitoring, and product quality programs are executed effectively and in compliance with company and regulatory standards. Success in this role is defined by strong leadership, proactive problem-solving, effective team development, and the ability to maintain control of QA operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

WORK SCHEDULE
Monday-Friday:
10am to 7pm. Weekend and overtime as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Serve as the site SQF Practitioner and PCQI. Own and maintain the site's FSMA-compliant Food Safety Plan, including hazard analysis, preventive controls, validation activities, verification tasks, and annual reanalysis. Provide daily supervision of QA/QC personnel regarding training and development in proper procedures, standards, and handling of employee relations, including establishment of measurable goals and input on performance reviews. Oversee daily QA operations on the production floor, ensuring compliance with FSQA programs including SQF, HACCP/Preventive Controls, GMPs, Allergen Control, Sanitation, Environmental Monitoring, Food Defense, Food Fraud, Supplier Approval Program and Foreign Material Control. Own the Hold and Release Program, ensuring timely disposition, investigation, and trending of nonconforming product. Review and verify QA and production records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance, including CCPs/Preventive Controls, hold/release documentation, and traceability records. Ensure accuracy, approval, and compliance of product specifications, COAs, and customer-specific requirements, including alignment with regulatory and customer expectations. Ensure adequate QA coverage across all shifts by coordinating staffing, providing direction during shift transitions, and supporting off-shift activities as needed. Act as the primary QA escalation point for production, sanitation, and maintenance teams, ensuring timely resolution of food safety and quality issues. Own the internal audit program, ensuring execution of scheduled GMP audits, timely corrective actions, and closure within established timelines. Verify execution of sanitation programs, including SSOP compliance, allergen changeover procedures, and sanitation verification activities. Oversee environmental monitoring program execution, including sample collection, result review, trend analysis, and corrective action implementation. Lead and conduct risk assessments, root cause analyses, and CAPA implementation for nonconformances. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Production, Sanitation, Maintenance, and R&D to support operational goals while maintaining food safety and quality standards. Serve as backup for Director of QA and QA/QC technicians. Perform other duties assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
B.S. in Food Science or Technology, Engineering, Biological Science, or related field.
Experience:
4
  • 6 years of experience in a food manufacturing environment, with a strong understanding of food safety principles, HACCP, SSOPs, and regulatory compliance.
Must demonstrate experience in a supervisory capacity within a QA or QC function.
Certifications:
SQF Practitioner, HACCP, and PCQI certification are required.
REQUIREMENTS
Self-driven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, record keeping, planning skills, and time management. Strong understanding of
FDA/USDA
regulations, FSMA, and GFSI standards. Ability to work in a team environment and independently in a flexible work environment with changing priorities. Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Must demonstrate independent and critical thinking ability and a hands-on mentality. Must possess excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Excellent written and verbal communication, with experience writing Standard Operating Procedures in a manufacturing setting. Must be able to work extended hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Must be able to communicate effectively in English and Spanish. Valid driver's license and ability to drop off samples as needed. Occasional travel may be required.
RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports directly to the Director of QA/R&D. The QA Supervisor works closely with other team members.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The QA Supervisor must be able to lift 30-40 lbs. with or without assistance. The working environment is a clean, climate-controlled, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, but may require some outside maintenance as needed. May require working in cold room temperatures <40°F. Must be able to pass a drug screen as well as a criminal background check. Exposure to manufacturing environments for periodic extended workdays including loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, and slippery conditions, food tasting and smells including all food allergens. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, and stretch. This job requires the employee to be able to read, write and communicate verbally in English.
