Quality Control Technician Job Description The Quality Control Technician supports a precision aerospace and manufacturing environment by ensuring that fabricated components consistently meet strict customer, regulatory, and internal quality standards. This role focuses on detailed inspection, accurate measurement, and clear documentation to maintain high-spec production quality. It is well-suited for someone with strong inspection experience, excellent blueprint reading skills, and a passion for quality in a fast-paced manufacturing setting. Responsibilities Perform detailed inspections on fabricated parts to verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards. Utilize precision measuring instruments such as calipers, ID/OD micrometers, depth gauges, indicators, and scales to confirm dimensional accuracy. Interpret and apply blueprints, weld symbols, and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements during inspection activities. Conduct fabrication inspection in line with established fabrication processes and quality expectations. Operate coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and related equipment to perform complex dimensional inspections when required. Perform quality checks at various stages of production to identify defects, deviations, or non-conforming conditions. Document quality issues and non-conformances clearly and accurately, ensuring all findings are recorded according to quality procedures. Communicate quality issues and recommended corrective actions to production, engineering, and leadership in a timely and professional manner. Support and uphold the quality management system (QMS) within an AS9100 aerospace environment. Track and analyze quality trends using basic statistical methods and Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools to help identify process improvements. Follow detailed work instructions, procedures, and inspection plans to ensure consistent and repeatable quality outcomes. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain and continuously improve quality standards and processes. Adhere to all safety, compliance, and housekeeping guidelines while performing inspection and quality assurance tasks. Use hand tools and related equipment safely and correctly as part of the inspection process. Lift and handle materials and components up to 50 pounds as needed to complete inspections. Essential Skills Experience in quality control or inspection within a manufacturing environment. Strong understanding of blueprint reading, including interpretation of weld symbols and engineering drawings. Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and geometric tolerances. Hands-on experience using precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers (ID/OD), depth gauges, indicators, and scales. Ability to perform fabrication inspection and apply established fabrication processes. Familiarity with quality control and quality assurance practices in a production environment. Ability to follow detailed instructions and work effectively in a fast-paced production setting. Basic math skills to perform accurate measurements, calculations, and data entry. Basic problem-solving skills to identify and help resolve quality issues. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely as part of daily duties. High school diploma or GED. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate's degree in a technical field is a plus. Experience working with AS9100 quality management systems in an aerospace environment. Knowledge of quality standards and quality checks specific to high-spec manufacturing. Experience operating coordinate measuring machines (CMM) and performing CMM inspections. Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC) and basic statistical analysis of quality data. Experience using hand tools and inspection-related equipment in a manufacturing setting.
