The Nutrition Specialist is responsible for the overall implementation, monitoring, and compliance of nutrition services under CACFP. This role ensures all program sites meet federal, state, and program requirements by overseeing meal service quality, documentation accuracy, and compliance systems. The Nutrition Specialist provides leadership, training, and technical assistance to staff and Child Care Partners to ensure consistent, audit-ready operations that support child health and nutrition outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
CACFP & Nutrition Compliance
  • Ensure all meals/snacks meet
USDA CACFP
meal pattern requirements
  • Oversee accuracy of meal counts, menus, and production records
  • Review and approve CACFP documentation for reimbursement submission
  • Lead audit preparation, monitoring reviews, and corrective actions Monitoring & Site Support
  • Conduct site monitoring for: o Meal service compliance o Food safety practices o Documentation accuracy Identify trends, issues, and provide corrective guidance Nutrition Services Implementation
  • Oversee nutrition assessments and individualized meal plans
  • Approve and monitor special diets, allergies, and accommodations Family Engagement & Staff Support
  • Provide nutrition education to families.
  • Support staff training on: o CACFP requirements o Meal service procedures o Documentation standards o Provide Resources on healthy eating, breast feeding, and food security
  • Support partners in maintaining CACFP participation Collaboration & Reporting
  • Coordinate with Finance on reimbursement claims
  • Work with Health Services on child nutritional needs
  • Support program-wide compliance and integrated services
  • Collaborate with program leadership to align health and nutrition services with overall program goals.
  • Work cross-functionally with Education, Family Engagement, Disabilities, Accounting, and Monitoring and Compliance teams to support integrated service delivery.
  • Participate in program leadership meetings, planning sessions, monitoring reviews, and professional learning activities.
  • Contribute to professional excellence through effective leadership, communication, and active participation in meetings and committees.
General Staff Responsibilities:
  • Maintain confidentiality in regard to staff and family information.
  • Fulfill role as mandated reporter as stated in Child Abuse and Neglect Policy.
  • Perform any other work-related duties as requested by your supervisor.
  • Be present at work in order to provide consistency of services.
  • Be a contributory team member in a positive/productive manner. Requirements
  • Associate degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Food Service Management, or a related field required; Early Childhood emphasis preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of nutrition services, experience in CACFP administration, monitoring, audits, data systems, quality improvement, and training delivery
  • Physical exams and background checks are required for this position.
Travel required locally or long-distance, up to 10% of the time for work-related meetings and functions. Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit most of the time with some bending and reaching.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and bend periodically.
  • Ability to engage in repetitive movement of wrists, hands, and fingers - typing and/or writing.
  • Ability to work frequently at close visual range (i.e. preparing and analyzing data and figures, accounting, transcription, computer terminal, extensive reading).
  • Ability to receive and respond to oral communication.
  • Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
Work Environment:
  • Work is generally performed in an office environment.
  • Noise level in the work environment is moderate to occasionally loud (examples: business office with computers and printers, light to moderate traffic, human voices). Standard office equipment generally used includes: o Telephone o Personal Computer (monitor, keyboard, and mouse) or Tablet o Printer/Photocopy Machine o Calculator o Fax Machine
