Field-Based Construction Projects Structural Steel Quality Control Inspector Job Overview We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Quality Control Inspector to support quality assurance and quality control efforts on active construction projects. This role is ideal for candidates with a strong background in structural steel, ironwork, steel erection, field engineering, or construction quality control who are comfortable working in the field and ensuring installations meet project specifications. The Structural Steel QC Inspector will perform inspections of structural steel installations, verify compliance with drawings and specifications, identify quality concerns, document findings, and work closely with project teams to ensure successful project execution. This is a hands-on field position requiring strong technical knowledge of steel construction practices, erection sequencing, alignment, bolt-up, fit-up, and installation standards. Key Responsibilities Perform quality control inspections of structural steel and miscellaneous iron installations Verify fit-up, bolt-up, alignment, elevations, plumbness, and layout accuracy Review structural drawings, shop drawings, erection plans, and project specifications Identify, document, and communicate non-conforming work and quality issues Maintain daily inspection reports, quality documentation, and inspection logs Track corrective actions and support issue resolution through completion Collaborate with superintendents, foremen, ironworkers, project managers, and field engineers Participate in quality walks, site inspections, and project coordination meetings Ensure work complies with project requirements, industry standards, and quality expectations Qualifications & Experience 3+ years of experience in quality control inspection, construction quality assurance, field engineering, steel erection, or ironwork supervision Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication and installation Experience inspecting commercial, industrial, manufacturing, energy, data center, or mission-critical construction projects preferred Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, erection drawings, and specifications Understanding of steel erection processes, fit-up, bolt-up, alignment, plumbness, elevations, and sequencing Experience documenting inspections, managing punch items, and tracking quality deficiencies Familiarity with Procore , construction management software, or quality tracking systems is a plus Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills Work Environment This position is based on active construction jobsites and requires frequent walking, climbing, standing, and working around ongoing structural steel installation activities. Candidates must be comfortable performing inspections in a dynamic field environment and maintaining a strong safety and quality focus.
