Inspectors document non-conformances, verify compliance with specifications and standards, and ensure products meet required quality. This role requires developing skills in measurement, documentation, and reporting, while adhering to quality control processes.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Inspections:
Perform inspections according to specifications, ensuring all quality standards are met. First Article Inspections (FAI): Assist with FAI and accurately document findings for quality assurance. Non-Conformance Reports (NCR): Identify defects and create NCRs to support timely corrective actions.
Calibration:
Assist in the routine calibration of instruments to maintain accuracy.
Record Keeping:
Maintain organized and accurate inspection records for traceability and compliance.
Policy Adherence:
Follow company policies and procedures, contributing to a culture of compliance and quality.
Work Environment:
Maintain a clean, safe workspace by adhering to all safety regulations.
Team Contribution:
Collaborate with team members to meet goals and complete tasks efficiently.
Timely Execution:
Ensure all tasks are completed on schedule, aligning with production goals.
Additional Responsibilities:
Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by management to support the overall objectives of the department and organization.
Organizational Excellence:
Actively contribute to continuous improvement efforts by identifying areas for process enhancement and maintaining high standards of quality in all inspections. Uphold company values and promote teamwork by collaborating effectively with colleagues and management.
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Certifications:
Relevant certifications (e.g., ASQ, AWS Certified Weld Inspector) are valued but not required; on-the-job training and practical experience are emphasized.
Experience:
Practical experience in a shop or manufacturing environment is preferred. On-the-job training is common, with progression based on demonstrated skills and performance.
Technical Skills:
Basic familiarity with measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers), technical mathematics, and an understanding of quality standards like
ISO 9001.
Preferred Experience:
3-5 years of experience in quality inspection or a related role, with demonstrated growth in applying quality control processes.
Desired Skills:
Competence with a variety of measurement tools and basic metrology, along with familiarity with common quality systems (e.g., ISO 9001).
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Technical Proficiency:
Mathematics & Measurement:
Strong understanding of basic to advanced technical mathematics (algebra, geometry, and trigonometry) essential for precise measurements and quality control.
Metrology:
Proficient with a range of metrology tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, CMM), with the ability to select, maintain, and calibrate tools as needed.
Blueprints & GD&T:
Skilled in reading and interpreting technical drawings, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles, to ensure compliance with specifications.
Calibration:
Competent in performing or overseeing calibration of measurement tools and understanding how environmental factors can impact accuracy.
Testing Methods:
Knowledgeable in both destructive and non-destructive testing methods, and familiar with quality assurance techniques like Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Measurement System Analysis (MSA).
Problem Solving & Analysis:
Root Cause Analysis:
Ability to conduct thorough root cause analyses to identify and resolve quality issues.
Statistical Tools:
Proficient in the use of statistical analysis tools to interpret quality data and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Process Improvement:
Capable of identifying process enhancements and implementing corrective actions to improve product quality and operational efficiency.
Organizational & Management Skills:
Multitasking & Time Management:
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy. Leadership & Mentorship (Senior Inspectors/CMM Programmer): Demonstrated leadership abilities to mentor junior inspectors, lead projects, and foster teamwork.
Communication & Collaboration:
Teamwork & Collaboration:
Effective in collaborating across departments (engineering, manufacturing, quality) to ensure alignment on quality standards and processes.
Communication:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex quality-related information clearly to stakeholders at all levels. Clean Room Experience is a Plus!
