Quality Control Technician Job Description As a Quality Control Technician, you will ensure adherence to food safety and quality standards in the lab and designated areas. Your role will involve calibrating lab and line equipment, collecting and testing in-process and finished product samples, and conducting various testing procedures such as microbiological, ATP, and product evaluation tests. Responsibilities Calibrate lab and line equipment for accurate results. Collect and test in-process and finished product samples for standardized qualitative and quantitative analysis. Perform and record product evaluation tests according to HACCP Plans, SOPs, and other food safety/quality programs. Ensure accurate documentation and recording in the computer system in line with SOPs. Conduct ATP testing as part of the allergen control program and perform microbiological testing. Maintain the retain sample library. Identify, isolate, and provide appropriate dispositions for products that do not meet standards. Comprehend and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and food safety regulations. Perform tasks including product sampling, line monitoring, auditing, lab testing, and calibration to ensure compliance. Understand product specification sheets and quality characteristics of packaged products. Conduct lab testing procedures such as brix, refractory index, pH, density, sensory, weights, and moisture testing. Operate equipment such as pH meters, viscosity meters, and GCMS. Essential Skills Proficiency with pH meters, UV visual, and measurement equipment. Knowledge of food science and chemistry. Experience with gas chromatography. Ability to wear a half-face respirator when working with specific chemicals. Additional Skills & Qualifications
AA/BA/BS
degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or a related science field, or 1+ year experience in food quality control with specific testing experience. Willingness to work in the food industry long-term. Work Environment The role involves working in a lab setting testing food for pH and viscosity. The company operates 7 days a week with production requiring lab support throughout. Candidates should be available to work one day on the weekend, with shifts from 7:30 am-4 pm, Monday to Friday, at the Santa Fe Springs location. Weekend work will be at the Commerce location with varying hours. Efforts are made to schedule personnel to avoid back-to-back weekend shifts, but flexibility is required. The lab must be staffed to accommodate production shifts which run two shifts Monday through Saturday and one shift on Sunday morning. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Santa Fe Springs, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
