certification, ensuring the delivery of precise forensic toxicology results to a diverse clientele. Job Summary The QA Specialist I supports quality assurance activities within a laboratory environment to ensure compliance with applicable industry regulations, client requirements, and internal quality standards (e.g., ISO, GMP, GLP as applicable). This role is responsible for assisting with maintenance and continual improvement of the Quality Management System (QMS) through internal audits, document control, risk assessments, vendor approval, and corrective and preventive action (CAPA) management. The QA Specialist investigates client complaints and laboratory deviations, assists with root cause analysis, and supports regulatory and client audits. Additional responsibilities include administration of the Electronic Quality Management System (EQMS), oversight of laboratory equipment calibration and maintenance records, and delivery of quality-related training to laboratory personnel. Actively promotes a culture of quality, data integrity, and continuous improvement while ensuring client confidence and fosters organization-wide awareness of client and regulatory compliance expectations. Responsibilities
  • Work with the QA team to maintain the daily operations of the Quality Assurance Department.
  • Help with conducting internal audits of the company's quality system to identify areas for improvement. Provide records of audits and corrective action(s) to the QA Director.
  • Aid the staff with the completion and follow-up of root cause and corrective action plans as part of the Quality Events.
  • Participate in regular department meetings to ensure the company's quality system meets all internal, client, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with implementing internal and regulatory changes as needed for departments and/or the company.
  • Develop training programs on QA policies and procedures.
  • Aid in the maintenance, implementation, and testing of the Electronic Management System (EQMS).
  • Create and assist laboratory staff with developing quality system documents.
  • Participate and assist the QA team with external audits.
  • Create and maintain the internal quality document control system.
  • Provide input to the QA Director to establish the QA Department goals and initiatives.
  • Coordinate and schedule calibration services of the various laboratory equipment, as needed, with third party vendors.
  • Conduct onsite calibrations for various lab equipment, as needed.
  • Maintain QA Department software systems to ensure compliance with internal requirements.
  • Conduct client complaint investigations, as needed.
  • Initiate and help laboratory personnel complete risk assessments.
  • Host individual or group training for laboratory staff and management on quality and safety topics.
  • Coordinate proficiency testing for the laboratory as required.
  • Review and approve laboratory data, validation studies, spreadsheet validations, etc., as needed.
  • Assist with lab production or method development, as needed.
  • Aid in the enforcement and maintenance of the laboratory safety program.
  • Other duties as required to complete department and company projects.
Education A bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, or other closely related science field. Qualifications A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a laboratory setting with knowledge and application of quality assurance responsibilities as well as a basic understanding of analytical chemistry principles is required. Current familiarity and implementation of quality systems (ISO 17025, GMP, GLP, etc.) and proficiency with an EQMS strongly preferred. Must have high ethical and quality standards.
Technical Knowledge:
Basic understanding of laboratory techniques and equipment, including the use of analytical balances, pipettes, standards' preparations, sample extraction techniques employed in sample analysis, and chemical reagents usage and storage. Good comprehension of quality control parameters, company quality assurance initiatives, ISO Guide 17025 and other requirements applicable to the analytical testing industry. Solid knowledge of analytical chemistry and operation of ELISA techniques, HPLC/MS, ICP/MS, and GC/MS instrumentation and related methodologies. Basic understanding of microbiology principles and practices. Skills Have strong written and verbal communication skills. Attention to detail, organizational and problem-solving skills, and multi-tasking ability. Ability to handle stressful situations and work in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to identify quality system problems, issue corrective action requests and follow-up reports. Must have the ability to conduct internal audits and group training to employ the quality and safety initiatives.
Experience:
Applied knowledge and use of scientific techniques. Proven ability to work unsupervised, learn new tasks, communicate effectively, and work with other team members.
