Full Job Description SMT Inspection & Rework Technician Position Summary:
The SMT Inspection & Rework Technician is responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) to ensure compliance with quality standards. This role includes operating and programming automated inspection equipment (AOI and X-Ray) and performing detailed rework to support high-reliability electronic assemblies.
Key Responsibilities:
Program, set up, and operate Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) and X-Ray inspection systems to verify PCB assembly quality Perform visual and automated inspection of PCBAs in accordance with
IPC-A-610
standards Identify, document, and communicate defects and non-conformances Perform rework and repair of SMT and through-hole components, including fine-pitch and high-density assemblies Touch up solder defects using appropriate tools and techniques Support root cause analysis by providing feedback on recurring defects or process issues Perform secondary operations such as through-hole soldering, depaneling, cleaning, testing, and packaging Ensure accurate documentation of inspection results and rework performed Maintain equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean and organized condition Follow all ESD, quality (QMS), and safety (OSHA) procedures and company policies
Qualifications:
Experience in SMT inspection and rework in a PCB assembly environment Hands-on experience with AOI and/or X-Ray systems (programming and operation preferred) Strong understanding of
IPC-A-610
standards (certification preferred) Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, BOMs, and work instructions Experience with fine-pitch soldering, BGA rework, and troubleshooting preferred Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
Preferred Skills:
IPC-A-610
Certification (CIS or higher) Experience with BGA, QFN, and microelectronics rework Familiarity with ERP/MES systems for tracking and documentation
Pay:
$26.22 - $31.52 per hour
