POSITION SUMMARY
Inspects machined parts and assemblies at various assembly stages, or at various machining operations to ensure conformance to specifications. In addition, periodic calibration of certain company and employee-owned gages to calibrated standards.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Reads and interprets blueprints or engineering specifications to obtain product information such as specified material, surface finish, and dimensions. Skilled and efficient at interpreting and applying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principles and standards. (Level III). Compares surface finish of workpiece to finish on set of standard blocks or with microinch measurement device to ensure production of specified surface finish. Measures dimensions, such as length, height, and distance, between reference points, using precision instruments such as micrometers, calipers, dial indicator, electronic height gage, coordinate measuring machine, or optical comparator to ensure product meets specifications. Locates datum on part and measures dimension such as angle, arc, and radii using combinations of aids such as surface plate, parallel bars, angle plates, gauge blocks, V-blocks, sine bars, and precision measuring instruments. Inspects first article parts. Prepares first article reports and maintains records when required. Inspects plating for conformance to specifications. Inspects parts from outside vendors for conformance to drawing. Reports findings immediately to Quality supervisor, shop or shift supervisor, and/or machine operator as necessary to maintain production schedule. (Reports to Quality Manager for Level III). Assists in calibration of inspection equipment to ensure accuracy and repeatability. (Level I). Sets up and calibrates inspection equipment to ensure accuracy and repeatability. (Level II). Administers and facilitates the calibration system. Sets up and calibrates inspection equipment and schedules outside calibration. (Level III). Substitutes known values, such as dimensions from blueprints into standard formulas and solves for unknown quantities using knowledge of algebra, trigonometry, or geometry to determine dimensions not specified in blueprints. Assists and writes discrepancy and corrective action reports. (Level I). Assists calibrations with outside sources. (Level II). As time allows, performs roving inspections on the floor and assists machinists and assemblers with problems. Programs and runs CNC coordinate measuring machines, including offline programming. (Level III). Works independently, but as part of a team, with minimal oversight. Attends work in person, on time, on a regular and reliable basis. Completes all tasks in an accurate, complete and timely manner. Is detail oriented. Follows directions. Asks questions to clarify if needs more information. Follows all safety protocols, helps others follow all safety protocols and alerts their supervisor or management to any safety risks that are discovered.
JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Training and Experience:
Level I:
1-2 years of trade school, vocational education, work experience, or apprenticeship in machining or related field.
Level II:
2 years or more of trade school, vocational education, work experience, or apprenticeship in machining or related field.
Level III:
4 years or more of trade school, vocational education, work experience, or apprenticeship. Certificates of training for Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing classes or seminars and certificate of training/programming for CNC coordinate measuring machines preferred.
Reading and Comprehension:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, drawings, set up sheets, and process sheets. Ability to write routine reports.
Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret graphs. Good working knowledge of shop math. (
Level III:
includes trigonometry and geometry; may require higher-level math training/certificates.).
Computer Skills:
Ability to enter and retrieve data relevant to job function from computer using ERP system and other software. (
Level III:
experience programming/running CMM software advantageous.).
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Pay:
$19.00 - $30.00 per hour
