Position Overview We are seeking a Quality Assurance & Metrology Technician to support inspection, metrology, first article inspection, quality documentation, and final product release in a precision manufacturing environment.
This role is responsible for interpreting technical drawings and customer specifications, verifying dimensional and optical requirements, performing first article, in-process, and final inspections, operating precision measurement equipment, controlling nonconforming material, and ensuring quality records are accurate and complete. The ideal candidate has strong inspection discipline, understands tight tolerances and customer requirements, and can produce accurate inspection reports, Certificates of Conformance, test reports, and customer-required quality documentation. Essential Responsibilities Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections of precision optical components, including lenses, windows, mirrors, coated parts, and related assemblies Read and interpret technical drawings, GD&T, customer specifications, tolerances, revisions, and quality requirements Review customer purchase orders, drawings, specifications, and documentation requirements to ensure inspection alignment before product release Set up and complete first article inspections, inspection plans, test reports, and related documentation Operate precision measurement and metrology equipment, which may include interferometers, profilometers, optical comparators, CMMs, calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection tools Verify dimensional, visual, surface, coating, and customer-specific requirements before product moves forward or is released for shipment Identify, document, control, and escalate nonconforming or suspect material according to quality procedures Support root cause review and corrective action activity related to NCRs, rework, scrap, inspection findings, or customer issues Prepare and verify Certificates of Conformance, inspection records, test reports, and customer-required quality documents Ensure quality documents match the correct customer, order, part number, revision, lot, and shipment Maintain quality records in accordance with
ISO 9001
2015 and company procedures• Support operators and inspection personnel with acceptance criteria, measurement techniques, and in-process quality checks Help develop and maintain work instructions related to inspection, tolerance interpretation, metrology, COC preparation, and test reporting Follow all posted safety, PPE, quality, traceability, export control, and documentation requirements Qualifications & Experience Required Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality assurance, quality inspection, metrology, or precision manufacturing inspection Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, GD&T, tolerances, revisions, and customer specifications Hands-on experience using precision measurement tools and metrology equipment Experience performing first article, in-process, and final inspection Experience preparing or reviewing inspection reports, test documentation, Certificates of Conformance, or similar quality records Familiarity with ISO 9001
2015 quality management system requirements Strong attention to detail, documentation accuracy, and process discipline Ability to identify, document, and control nonconforming material according to established procedures Professional communication skills and ability to work with production, quality, shipping, and operations teams Preferred Experience in optical manufacturing, precision optics, aerospace, defense, medical, or other high-precision manufacturing environments Experience inspecting infrared materials, optical components, coated parts, or tight-tolerance precision components Experience with optical surface quality standards, interferometry, profilometry, or advanced metrology methods Experience in an ITAR-regulated, defense, aerospace, or ISO-controlled manufacturing environment ASQ Certified Quality Inspector, Certified Quality Technician, or similar certification preferred Work Environment & Physical Requirements This is a full-time, on-site role in a manufacturing environment. The position requires regular work in inspection, metrology, production, shipping-adjacent, and quality-controlled areas. The employee may spend the workday standing, walking, sitting, reviewing documents, inspecting parts, using measurement equipment, entering data, and handling fragile or high-value components. Requirements This role operates in a regulated manufacturing environment and must follow company procedures related to production documentation, material handling, lot traceability, quality requirements, ITAR, ISO 9001:2015, and applicable customer requirements.
