Job Description

The Quality Systems Coordinator at Iowa Aluminum supports the Quality Manager in implementing, maintaining, and continually improving the company's Quality Management System. This position plays an important role in helping Iowa Aluminum meet
ISO 9001
requirements and selected
IATF 16949
requirements through documentation, records, internal audits, process verification, corrective action support, training support, and quality system follow-up. This role is primarily focused on assisting with the Quality Management System and helping ensure that quality requirements are understood, followed, documented, and maintained throughout the facility. The Quality Systems Coordinator helps connect written procedures to actual floor practices by reviewing records, verifying process compliance, supporting employees, and identifying gaps or improvement opportunities. This position includes work in the quality office, quality lab, and production floor. While the main focus is ISO/IATF and QMS support, this role may also assist with mechanical testing, part inspection, lab records, and quality verification activities as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality Management System /
ISO Support:
Assist the Quality Manager with the implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of Iowa Aluminum's Quality Management System. Support ISO 9001 and selected
IATF 16949
requirements through documentation, records, process checks, audit support, and follow-up activities. Help ensure procedures, work instructions, forms, inspection records, training records, and quality documents are accurate, controlled, and being used properly. Help prepare for customer audits, ISO audits, IATF-related audits, and internal quality system reviews. Assist with gathering objective evidence needed to show compliance with
ISO/IATF
requirements.
Internal Auditing and Process Verification :
Participate in internal audits. Verify that procedures, work instructions, inspection requirements, and quality records match actual floor practices. Help verify that corrective actions are completed and effective. Help prepare departments for internal audits, customer audits, and external
ISO/IATF
audits.
Documentation and Record Control:
Assist with maintaining quality system documentation, including procedures, work instructions, forms, policies, process documents, and records. Help ensure quality documents are current, accurate, approved, and available where needed. Help maintain quality spreadsheets, logs, audit trackers, corrective action trackers, training records, inspection records, and other QMS-related files. Assist with preparing reports, summaries, meeting notes, audit materials, and management review information as needed.
Corrective Action and Continual Improvement Support:
Assist with corrective actions, root cause investigations, containment activities, and follow-up documentation. Support the tracking of corrective actions from issue identification through completion. Support continual improvement activities related to the Quality Management System, production processes, inspection, testing, documentation, and customer satisfaction.
Training and Employee Support :
Assist with quality-related training documentation and training record organization. Support the rollout of new or revised quality documents, procedures, and forms. Assist with verifying that employees are trained in applicable procedures and job requirements. Support communication between the Quality Manager and departments regarding QMS requirements and quality system changes.
Production Floor Quality System Support:
Spend time on the production floor to help verify that the Quality Management System is being followed in daily operations. Assist with reviewing production records, inspection records, work orders, and process documentation for accuracy and completion. Support production employees and supervisors with quality system questions, documentation requirements, and process expectations.
Lab Duties and Quality Verification Support:
Support lab and inspection activities as needed to help maintain quality system compliance. Assist with sample preparation, mechanical testing, inspection documentation, lab records, and test result review. Perform or assist with dimensional and visual inspections of aluminum extrusions and related products.
Qualifications:
Quality Management System Focus:
Willingness to learn and support ISO 9001, selected
IATF 16949
requirements, internal auditing, document control, corrective actions, and continual improvement.
Documentation Skills:
Ability to complete, review, organize, and maintain records clearly and accurately.
Office and Computer Skills:
Ability to use or learn ERP Systems, Microsoft Word, Excel, quality records, electronic files, forms, trackers, and other office-based documentation tools.
Communication and Teamwork:
Ability to work with production employees, supervisors, quality personnel, and management in a clear and professional manner.
Technical Ability:
Ability to use or learn measurement tools, lab equipment, mechanical testing equipment, and inspection methods as needed.
Attendance:
Consistent and reliable attendance is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with
ISO 9001, IATF
16949, internal auditing, document control, or quality management systems preferred, but not required. Experience in manufacturing, quality, inspection, lab testing, or office documentation preferred. Internal auditor training preferred, or willingness to complete internal auditor training. Experience reading procedures, work instructions, customer specifications, inspection records, or drawings preferred. Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and ERP software.
