Job Title:
Quality Control Technician Job Description The Quality Control Technician supports a food-grade manufacturing facility by ensuring that all products meet strict quality and safety standards. This role focuses on checking production records and labels, creating accurate labels for oil products, monitoring product flow, and performing laboratory tests such as PV, OSI, pH, and density. The technician works closely with production teams on the floor, conducts frequent quality checks, and helps prevent defects or issues that could lead to product recalls. This is a hands-on, fast-paced position with strong opportunities for advancement for individuals who demonstrate reliability, strong work ethic, and high-quality performance. Responsibilities Check and verify production records for accuracy and completeness. Spot check labels on finished and in-process products to ensure they meet specifications and regulatory requirements. Create and print labels for oil products in accordance with product and packaging requirements. Monitor the flow of product during production to identify and address any quality concerns. Collect product samples from the production line at defined intervals. Perform PV (peroxide value) and OSI (oxidative stability index) testing on product samples in the laboratory. Conduct pH and density testing on products as required to confirm they meet quality standards. Oversee the production floor from a quality perspective and perform regular quality checks on products and processes. Work efficiently in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment while maintaining high attention to detail. Follow established quality control procedures and document test results accurately. Communicate any quality issues or nonconformances to appropriate team members in a timely manner. Adhere to all food safety and quality protocols, including proper sample handling and labeling. Wear and maintain proper personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times in designated areas. Participate in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area in the office, lab, and production floor. Openly report errors or potential issues to help prevent defective product from reaching the marketplace. Support continuous improvement efforts related to quality control and production processes. Essential Skills Experience in quality control or quality inspection, preferably within food manufacturing. Hands-on laboratory experience, including performing tests and accurately recording results. Ability to perform PV and OSI testing on food or oil products. Ability to perform pH and density testing with accuracy and consistency. Comfort working in a fast-paced production environment while maintaining attention to detail. Experience with labeling processes and quality checks on labels. Ability to oversee products on a production floor and identify quality issues. Strong work ethic, reliability, and consistent attendance. Willingness to admit and report mistakes to protect product quality and safety. Ability to perform frequent moving, standing, lifting, and other active movements throughout the shift. Ability to follow written procedures and quality protocols in a food-grade environment. Comfort working with vegetable oil and dried goods in a manufacturing setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Food and beverage manufacturing experience preferred. Quality lab experience in a food or related industry preferred. Associate degree in biotechnology, biology, or a related field preferred but not required. Willingness to learn and grow into lead roles based on performance, work ethic, and attendance. Strong sense of responsibility for product quality and consumer safety. Comfort working in a setting where getting dirty is part of the job. Openness to feedback and commitment to continuous improvement. Work Environment This role is based in a food-grade manufacturing facility that produces vegetable oil and dried goods. The schedule is a four-day work week on second shift, working Monday through Thursday from 2:30 PM to 1:00 AM. Approximately 60% of the time is spent in an office environment working with labels, 30% on the production floor overseeing products, and 10% in the laboratory performing tests. The facility is climate controlled but involves working around food ingredients where you may get dirty. The culture emphasizes accountability, open communication about mistakes, and a strong focus on preventing product recalls. Proper PPE is provided, including safety glasses, lab coat, respirator, and gloves, and must be worn as required. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Boone, IA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
