Job Purpose:
Monitor product quality by performing various prescribed test methods, document results, analyze results according to criteria provided, communicate deficiencies to management, assist with problem resolution and document any resulting actions, and maintain housekeeping in the QC and Color labs.Work Environment:
A Lab Tech regularly performs duties in the QC and Color labs, both of which are laboratory environments that require use of personal protective equipment including safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, work gloves and other specialized protective equipment, all as directed by the Company's operating procedures, safety procedures and other instructions provided by management. A Lab Tech also periodically performs duties in the production area, an industrial environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in addition to the items described above. These items include hearing protection, hard hat, respiratory protection, and other specialized protective equipment, as directed by the Company's operating procedures, safety procedures, and other instructions provided by management. The production environment includes equipment operating at very high temperatures, often resulting in temperatures inside the production area that are higher than ambient temperatures. The employee will be exposed to moving mechanical parts, sharp tools, hot plastic, wet or slippery floor conditions, and airborne dust and particles. Typical work schedule includes 12 hours per day, alternating 36/48 hours per week (overtime is required according to production demand). Rotating shift work is required. Work instructions are provided in written form or spoken in English.Essential Functions and Requirements:
Testing activities include but are not limited to: operating and/or utilizing a variety of lab equipment to perform prescribed test methods according to established testing schedules and documented procedures; performing equipment inspection, setup, adjustments, and minor repairs with limited supervision; ensuring acceptable performance standards for test methods; performing calculations to convert information obtained from test methods into usable test results; documenting test results according to established protocol; analyzing test results according to criteria provided; communicating any deficiencies to management; assisting with problem resolution and documenting any resulting actions; maintaining housekeeping of the QC and Color Labs; and performing other tasks directed by management. Material handling tasks include but are not limited to; occasionally using a forklift, pallet jack or similar device to transport material and other items; sampling and/or visually inspecting materials stored in packages, railcars and silos as directed by management; manually transferring material using a bucket or similar device; assembling, filling, and/or disassembling of packages. Shift and line changeover, housekeeping and other general tasks include but are not limited to: cleaning and inspection of equipment; repackaging and sealing of sample containers; and general organization and cleanup of work areas. The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions listed above. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; use hands & fingers to handle and feel objects, tools, and controls; reach repetitively with arms & hands; talk; and hear. The employee is required to walk, sit, climb, balance, kneel, crouch, and stoop. The employee will periodically lift items up to 50 pounds from floor level to a height of 3 feet and use devices that require a pushing or pulling force up to 120 pounds to transport items. The employee will climb ladders and occasionally perform tasks at heights greater than 6 feet and stand on concrete floors regularly throughout a 12 hour shift. Specific vision abilities required in this job include color perception, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Employee must also have a satisfactory attendance record and be responsible for the safe operation of all equipment and materials.Additional Responsibilities:
Maintain awareness of and perform tasks in compliance with all internal policies, procedures and practices, as described in the Employee Handbook, all Safety Manuals, all Quality System Procedures, and other instructions provided by management, as well as applicable OSHA regulations. Identify, troubleshoot and report the following to management: equipment defects or malfunctions; out of spec material or contamination; safety issues or incidents. Initiating actions up to and including equipment shutdown, to mitigate a safety, environmental, and/or product quality incident. Effective verbal communication with co-workers and management is required. Certain reports and other communication will be required in writing.Pre-Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED equivalent; produce acceptable scores on the following ACT WorkKeys tests: Applied Mathematics, Locating Information and Reading for Information. Preferred candidates should have prior work history performing quality control responsibilities or similar oversight experience in a manufacturing environment.Career Development:
Position is eligible for Chemtrusion's certification program. With appropriate tenure, training, and available openings, may advance to Production Operator, Analytical Technician and/or a suitable management position.Job Type:
