The High-Voltage Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all construction activities across GIS Power Services projects meet applicable quality standards, design specifications, and regulatory requirements. This role supports a wide range of high-voltage work including substations, transmission infrastructure, and utility-scale energy projects. The HV Quality Inspector serves as a critical field presence—verifying installation quality, executing inspection and test plans (ITPs), and proactively identifying and resolving issues before they result in rework or safety risks. This position works closely with construction teams, project leadership, clients, and third-party stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery and turnover.Key Responsibilities:
Field Quality Inspections- Perform daily inspections of high-voltage construction activities including: o Foundations (drilled piers, pads) o Structural steel erection o Buswork installation o Ground grid systems o Conduit and duct bank installation o Control cable pulling and terminations
- Verify all work complies with: o Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings and specifications o Utility standards (e.g., Entergy) o Applicable codes (NEC, IEEE, etc.)
- Inspect installation of high-voltage equipment such as breakers, transformers, and switches o Evaluate site conditions, alignment, layout, and material installations for compliance with design and contract documents Inspection & Test Plan (ITP) Execution
- Execute and document Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs)
- Witness and verify hold points including: o Concrete pours o Ground grid continuity testing o Torqueing of bolted connections o Cable megger testing (as applicable)
- Ensure no work proceeds beyond required inspection checkpoints without approval Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare and maintain: o Daily inspection reports o ITP checklists o Punch lists and deficiency logs
- Track and manage: o Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) o Corrective actions and resolutions
- Maintain as-built drawings, field redlines, and photo documentation
- Generate clear, accurate reports summarizing inspection findings and project status Drawing & Specification Interpretation
- Interpret and review: o One-line and three-line diagrams o Wiring and control schematics o Layout and construction drawings
- Identify discrepancies between design and field conditions
- Support RFI development and resolution as needed Field Coordination & Communication
- Collaborate with: o Superintendents, foremen, and construction managers o Engineers and project managers
- Provide real-time feedback to field teams to address quality issues proactively
- Monitor contractor performance for compliance with contract requirements
- Participate in pre-construction meetings and ongoing coordination discussions Client & Third-Party Interaction
- Support client inspections, utility walkdowns, and audits
- Interface with contractors and third-party inspectors to coordinate inspection activities
- Assist in resolving technical issues and interpreting project requirements
- Contribute to mechanical completion and substantial completion walkdowns Turnover & Project Closeout
- Assist with: o Punch list development and closure o QA/QC documentation packages o Test reports and certifications
- Ensure systems are complete, compliant, and ready for commissioning
- Support turnover documentation and final acceptance processes
Qualifications:
- Technical certificate or associate degree in Electrical Technology or similar preferred.
- 5-10+ years of experience in substation, transmission, or heavy electrical construction
- Prior QA/QC, inspection, or strong field leadership experience (e.g., foreman/superintendent)
- Working knowledge of: o High-voltage equipment and substation construction practices o Electrical drawings, specifications, and codes (NEC, IEEE, utility standards) o Inspection processes, documentation, and compliance requirements
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and make sound field decisions
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and photo documentation tools
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel extensively (project-based assignments) Preferred Qualifications
- NICET Certification (Electrical Power Testing or Construction)
- NETA Certification or commissioning exposure
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
- First Aid / CPR
- Experience with transmission line or substation projects across multiple phases

o Ability to work 10-12-hour days, 5-6 days per week as required by project o Walk 3-5 miles per day across uneven or rough terrain o Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. regularly o Climb in and out of vehicles and navigate active construction sites o Wear required PPE at all times while on siteEEOC Statement:
