Job Description

Quality Tech
  • 01024249 Description The Lumber Quality Control Technician is responsible for inspecting lumber products at various stages of production to ensure they meet company standards, customer specifications, and applicable industry regulations.

Retirement:
Employees are able to enroll in our company's 401k plan, which includes a paid company match in addition to our annual contribution equal to 5% of your eligible pay.
Shift:
5:00pm to 3:30am Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect incoming, in-process, and finished lumber for grade, dimensions, moisture content, defects, and overall quality
  • Verify compliance with company quality standards, customer requirements, and industry grading rules (e.g., NHLA, SPIB, or similar as applicable)
  • Document inspection results and maintain accurate quality records and reports
  • Identify quality issues, non-conforming materials, and trends; communicate findings to production and leadership teams
  • Work closely with production staff to resolve quality concerns and prevent recurring defects
  • Perform moisture testing, grade checks, and visual inspections using appropriate tools and equipment
  • Assist with internal audits, customer audits, and corrective action processes
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, yield, and efficiency
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures while working in a manufacturing environment Qualifications High school diploma or GED 1-3 years of experience in Quality Control/Quality Assurance Working knowledge of lumber grades, wood defects, and dimensional tolerances Strong attention to detail and ability to make objective quality assessments Basic computer skills for data entry, reporting, and documentation Ability to work in a physically demanding environment (standing, walking, lifting, exposure to dust and noise)
Preferred:
  • Experience with lumber grading rules or quality standards
  • Certification or training in lumber inspection or quality control
  • Prior experience in a sawmill or wood products manufacturing facility Skills & Competencies
