Job Title:
Construction Materials Technician Job Description Join our dynamic team as a Construction Materials Technician, where you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and integrity of construction materials on various projects across the Detroit/Metro Detroit area. This long-term contract position offers the potential to transition to a permanent role within 9-12 months. You will be integral in conducting material sampling and testing, interpreting project specifications, and maintaining equipment while working on active construction sites. Responsibilities Conduct material sampling and testing of soils, aggregates, asphalt concrete, and concrete during placement on active construction sites. Interpret project specifications and working drawings. Perform field inspections, testing, and sampling. Ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment on assigned projects. Accurately obtain and legibly record field data in an organized manner, as required by project plans, specifications, or staff. Generate and compile comprehensive field reports, primarily using MetaField. Document daily installed construction quantities. Communicate effectively with all on-site team members, including contractors and owner representatives. Maintain open and timely communication with all relevant stakeholders. Ensure the proper maintenance of assigned vehicles and equipment. Understand and strictly adhere to all public health and safety requirements and established safety procedures. Essential Skills 2 plus years of Material Testing experience Clean Driving Record Proficiency in MS Office ACI/MCA Concrete Level I Concrete Field Testing Technician Certification MDOT Density Control Certification Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience on municipal infrastructure projects such as water, sewer, sanitary, sidewalks, ADA ramps, roadways, and/or site structures. Skilled with IDRs (Inspector Daily Reports). OSHA 10 Certification. MCA Certification. MDOT Aggregate Sampling Certification. HMA Certification. Experience with Floor Flatness testing. Familiarity with AASHTOWare, Field Book, Project Wise, Blue Beam, e-Builder, MetaField, and/or Appia. Work Environment This role primarily involves fieldwork, with the possibility of office work for documentation and report writing during inclement weather. You will work Monday through Saturday, averaging 10-12 hour days, with an occasional Sunday. A work truck will be provided if available; otherwise, mileage expenses can be claimed. The position involves working on projects with the Detroit Water and Sewer Department, Taylor High School Athletic Fields, and other municipal projects in the Detroit area. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dearborn, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $28.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
