Job Duties:
This position provides purchasing and inventory management of various commodities and Mn/DOT materials. Performs a broad range of work activities associated with purchasing, inventory management, fixed asset management, contract administration, specification, disposal, and parts, supplies, equipment, and materials disbursement within the guidelines of the Materials Management Plan.
NOTE:
The incumbent in this position is required to be immediately accessible to a phone and be able to report to work within one (1) hour of being called. The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications To qualify for Transportation Materials Technician, applicants must meet one of the following: One year of experience working with the Minnesota Department of Transportation's Materials Management System sufficient to research equipment, parts and materials through a variety of resources and methods; establish and evaluate product comparison data; and analyze detailed reports to recommend/determine and purchase appropriate inventory. OR Two years of experience working with automated Materials Management/Inventory Management Systems sufficient to research heavy equipment parts and/or construction materials; compile, analyze, and evaluate product comparison data, write specifications, prepare solicitations, analyze bids and select vendors; and purchase inventory. AND Experience using various software applications (e.g., spreadsheets, word processing, etc.) sufficient to research, update and report on inventory. Accounting sufficient to analyze costs, invoicing and budgets. Valid Driver's License. The successful candidate must achieve the following certifications within 6 months of hire: Authority for Local Purchase (ALP) Certificate for up to $10,000 from the Minnesota Department of Administration. Forklift Certification Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of terminology related to construction, maintenance (repair and maintenance of equipment, facility operations, etc.), and electronic / electrical operations. Experience with ordering automotive parts. Experience using SWIFT inventory management systems.
