Job Description
Pierce Steel Fabricators is a custom steel fabrication company seeking an experienced Weld Quality Inspector to ensure our products meet the highest quality and safety standards. This role is responsible for inspecting welded parts and assemblies, maintaining compliance with
AWS/ASME
codes, and supporting continuous improvement across our production floor. Check out our website to see the type of products we make - www.piercesteel.com.Key Responsibilities:
Inspection & Compliance- Perform visual (VT) and dimensional inspections of fabrications for compliance with
AWS/ASME
standards, including weld size, bead formation, penetration, and defect detection (cracks, porosity, undercuts, spatter).- Conduct in‑process inspections, dimensional verification, coating inspections, and other product tests as required.
- Inspect and release raw materials, supplied components, and finished products for conformance to drawings, specifications, purchase/work orders, and MTR requirements.
- Verify surface preparation and coating application to ensure proper coverage, thickness, and finish.
- Maintain tool and equipment calibration records. Documentation & Reporting
- Develop and complete Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) on work orders throughout the fabrication process.
- Document inspection results, write and process Non‑Conformance Reports (NCR), and enter data into company systems.
- Maintain organized inspection records for internal review and customer requirements. Training & Continuous Improvement
- Support training of production staff on quality standards and inspection techniques.
- Collaborate with supervisors, engineering, and quality teams to address quality issues and recommend process improvements.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Two‑year degree in Welding/Manufacturing Technology or high school diploma/GED with equivalent welding inspection experience.
- Strong understanding of welding processes, symbols, and quality standards.
- Ability to read/interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Proficiency in using inspection tools and measuring equipment.
- Able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs.
Preferred:
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent certification.
- Experience in custom steel fabrication or manufacturing.
- Familiarity with
ASME IX, AWS
D1.1, and related codes.Benefits:
