Overview:
Position Overview At Unified Door & Hardware Group (UDHG), the Senior On-Floor Quality Inspector is responsible for real-time quality enforcement within hollow metal door and frame manufacturing. This hands-on, production-embedded role focuses on detecting, containing, and resolving nonconformances at the source to prevent defects from reaching customers. Operating with a high degree of independence, this position partners with production, engineering, and maintenance to drive immediate corrective actions, reduce rework and scrap, and standardize quality expectations across all shifts. Success is measured by a zero-defect escape mindset, rapid issue resolution, and measurable improvements in product quality and operational performance.
Responsibilities and Qualifications:
Key Responsibilities On-Floor Quality Control & Inspection Conduct continuous floor audits across all production areas, including forming, welding, assembly, and finishing Perform in-process inspections to verify dimensional accuracy, weld quality, and surface conditions Ensure compliance with shop drawings, order requirements, and customer specifications Containment & Quality Authority Stop production when quality risks are identified Establish and manage quarantine areas for nonconforming materials Determine defect disposition, including rework, scrap, or use-as-is, and prevent downstream impact Dimensional & Technical Validation Interpret drawings using GD&T and verify critical tolerances and alignments Use measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges to confirm product conformance Validate frame squareness, door flatness, and hardware alignment Welding & Fabrication Oversight Inspect weld quality, including penetration, porosity, and finish, to ensure compliance with standards Verify material integrity, gauge compliance, and forming quality Partner with production teams to improve consistency and throughput Root Cause & Continuous Improvement Lead rapid root cause analysis using structured problem-solving methods such as 5 Whys and Fishbone Collaborate cross-functionally to implement and validate corrective actions Drive reductions in scrap, rework, and recurring defects Systems & Data Management Document nonconformances in
SAP S/4HANA
Support traceability, quality notifications, and performance reporting Provide data to support cost of poor quality, yield improvement, and operational metrics Customer Quality Protection Ensure compliance with UL, ANSI, SDI, and fire-rated requirements Validate hardware preparation and product compatibility Serve as the final quality checkpoint prior to shipment Standardization & Training Define and reinforce visual quality standards and inspection criteria Train operators and supervisors on defect identification and quality expectations Promote consistency across shifts, cells, and facilities Additional Responsibilities & Miscellaneous Perform other duties as assigned to support manufacturing and corporate objectives Qualifications Required Qualifications 5-10+ years of experience in hollow metal door and frame manufacturing Hands-on experience in shop floor production, quality inspection, or quality engineering Strong background in welding and sheet metal fabrication Advanced knowledge of GD&T, blueprint reading, and manufacturing tolerances Understanding of door and frame construction and hardware preparation requirements Proven ability to make independent decisions and stop production when necessary Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and communication skills Preferred Qualifications Experience in custom or engineer-to-order manufacturing environments Exposure to SAP quality modules and high-mix, low-volume production Certifications such as AWS (welding) or ASQ (quality)
Compensation and Benefits:
Reports To Head of Manufacturing Compensation The listed pay range reflects the expected base rate for this position. Within the range, individual pay may vary based on experience, qualifications, and work location within state. This is a full-time position with competitive pay and benefits.
Base:
$62.00 - $80.00 per hour
Bonus:
Performance-based (tied to quality and operational metrics) Total Compensation (Base + Bonus): The successful candidate could reasonably expect a Total Compensation Package in the range of $120,000 - $160,000
