Job Description

Quality Control Technician Job Description Position Summary Tests and inspects products at various stages of production process and compiles and evaluates statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products by performing the following duties. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Interprets engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas and confers with management or engineering staff to determine quality and reliability standards. Selects products for tests at specified stages in production process, and tests products for variety of qualities such as dimensions, performance, mechanical, electrical, and/or chemical characteristics. Records test data (applying statistical quality control procedures when applicable) utilizing precise measuring instruments and large test equipment. Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards. Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability. Sets up and performs destructive and nondestructive tests on materials, parts, or products to measure performance, life, or material characteristics. Prepares graphs or charts of data or enters data into computer for analysis. Authorizes parts to be shipped. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, vendors and fellow employees. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills Ability to comprehend, manipulate, and create basic Microsoft office documents (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, etc.). AutoCad experience a plus. Other Skills Organizational skills required; Mechanical ability to use tools (hand drill, rivet gun, band saw drill), Ability to understand how machines run to help in troubleshooting quality issues.
