Steel Quality Technician CWI | UT Level II |

Position Summary Fought & Company is seeking a highly motivated Steel Quality Technician to support quality assurance, inspection, and non-destructive testing activities within our structural steel, bridge, and heavy fabrication operations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that fabricated components meet customer requirements, contract specifications, applicable codes, and Fought's commitment to quality. The successful candidate will work closely with production, welding, project management, and customers to verify compliance throughout fabrication and shipment. The ideal candidate will hold current certifications as an AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), Ultrasonic Testing Level II (UT Level II), and Magnetic Particle Testing Level II (MT Level II), with experience in structural steel fabrication, bridge fabrication, or heavy industrial manufacturing environments. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform dimensional, visual, and quality inspections throughout fabrication. Conduct and document non-destructive testing including: Ultrasonic Testing (UT) Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) Visual Weld Inspection (VT) Verify compliance with:
AWS D1.1 AWS D1.5
Bridge Welding Code AISC requirements Customer specifications Contract documents Review weld procedures, welder qualifications, and inspection records. Coordinate inspections with customers, owners, engineers, and third-party inspectors. Prepare inspection reports, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and corrective action documentation. Support maintenance and calibration of inspection and testing equipment. Assist with internal quality audits and continuous improvement initiatives. Participate in root-cause investigations and corrective action development. Promote a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement. Required Qualifications AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification. Current UT Level II certification. Current MT Level II certification. High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 3 years of experience in steel fabrication, welding inspection, or quality assurance.
Ability to read and interpret:
Structural steel drawings Shop drawings Welding symbols Fabrication specifications Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 and
AWS D1.5
requirements. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic inspection documentation. Preferred Qualifications Experience with bridge fabrication. Experience within an AISC Certified fabrication facility. PT Level II certification. Knowledge of fracture-critical fabrication requirements. Familiarity with Tekla Structures and digital quality management systems. Physical Requirements Ability to work in an active fabrication environment. Ability to climb ladders, access elevated work areas, and navigate large structural assemblies. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
