Job Description
The Quality Technician supports the Plant Manager by performing inspections, measurements, and tests to ensure products meet customer specifications and quality requirements. This hands-on role works primarily on the production floor to identify and contain nonconforming material, maintain accurate quality records, and support continuous improvement initiatives within the manufacturing operation. Key Responsibilities Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections using hand tools, gauges, and measurement equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges. Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and inspection plans to verify product conformance. Complete inspection records, check sheets, and electronic logs accurately; enter data into quality or ERP systems as required. Identify, tag, and segregate nonconforming material; initiate nonconformance reports and communicate issues to the Plant Manager. Assist with root cause investigations by providing measurements, photos, samples, and inspection findings. Perform dimensional and functional testing according to documented procedures and sampling plans. Support calibration activities for measurement tools and gauges by conducting basic verification checks and coordinating calibration schedules. Maintain organization and cleanliness of the quality lab, inspection stations, and testing equipment in accordance with 5S standards. Communicate quality concerns, hold status, and rework requirements with production personnel, engineering, and supervisors. Assist with internal and customer audits by providing records, sample parts, and explanations of inspection methods. Follow all company safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment (PPE). Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; technical coursework or a 2-year technical degree preferred. Prior experience in manufacturing, inspection, or quality control preferred. Ability to read and interpret basic engineering drawings and specifications. Experience using standard measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges. Basic math skills including fractions, decimals, and tolerance calculations. Comfortable using computers for data entry, email, and spreadsheet applications. Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to follow written procedures and work effectively in a team environment. Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with production personnel and supervisors. Preferred Qualifications Two or more years of quality inspection or quality technician experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience working within ISO 9001 or similar quality management systems. Familiarity with basic quality tools such as control charts, capability studies, and sampling methods. Experience using CMMs, vision systems, or other advanced measurement equipment is a plus. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Full-time, on-site position located at the Clearfield, PA manufacturing facility. Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching on the production floor. Ability to lift, move, and handle parts and materials as required by the position. Required use of safety glasses, hearing protection, and other PPE in accordance with plant safety policies.
