Job Summary:
The Quality Control Tech is responsible for ensuring our vinyl records made for production are up to our quality standards by doing both visual and listening inspections.
Duties/Responsibilities:
All QC Techs are responsible for a set number of machines each day. QC Techs will monitor their performance through verifying project information and conducting multiple quality checks per press.
  • Visual inspection of labels ○ Ensure labels are correct and on the right side of the record ○ Ensure labels are not cracked, torn, wet, or doubled
  • Visual inspection of records ○ Verify all component numbers are correct on the etching of the record ○ Ensure there is no warping, cupping, and jagged/sharp/uneven edging ○ Ensure there are no dimples, scratches, scuffs, stains, or press-related issues ○ Ensure vinyl color is correct
  • Listening inspection of records ○ Ensure there are no pops, tics, or skips in the dead space between songs and at the beginning and ending of each record ○ Identify, measure, communicate, and digitally note all serial and press-related defects ○ Notify operators, QC Lead, and/or QC Supervisor if any components are incorrect or if any records have defects that cannot be addressed through normal means (i.
e. adjustments, stamper changes, etc.)
  • Work with the QC team to update our quantities remaining on projects at the end of each shift.
  • Complete necessary documentation and utilize available digital audio. This is done using the company's digital archives and workspaces (i.e. Google Drive familiarity needed).
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Other duties within department that may be assigned
  • Adhere to all safety rules and regulations
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of data spreadsheets and computer literacy are a primary requirement for fulfilling the daily job requirements
  • Ability to quickly and effectively communicate quality concerns that escalate from simple to complex problems while the presses are actively running
  • Delicate handling & simple understanding of computer and audio equipment
  • Ability to follow instructions to carry out assignments
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Education and Experience:
  • Ideally some collegiate experience, prior work history involving digital interfaces and factory work, and some passion for music as an art form
  • Ideally some familiarity with the vinyl medium as an audio source (e.g. delicate handling, expectations of playback quality, etc.)
  • Most ideally, some experience working with audio/recording software programs (i.
e. DAWs)
Physical Requirements:
  • Potential lifting of up to 60 lbs.
  • Extended periods of standing, lifting, and moving
  • Good eyesight and hearing are necessary to properly identify audible and visual defects
