Lab Quality Assurance Specialist:
Develop, coordinate, monitor, and maintain department policies relating to inspection readiness, employee safety, and quality assurance; ensure medical laboratory tests, procedures, experiments and analyses in the hematology, chemistry, blood bank, and serology laboratories are conducted in compliance with department procedures and all pertinent regulatory requirements and conduct training with regard to same; perform all delegated functions as defined by facility Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments Director; maintain an understanding of a broad range of external regulatory standards related to laboratory operations (including laboratory tests, chemical analyses, serological testing, venipuncture, drug screens, blood cell studies, specimen preparation, and interpretation of clinical laboratory tests); coordinate the laboratory safety team and consult with the laboratory and institutional safety director on all safety policies and procedures; ensure that laboratory safety standards and regulations are followed by staff; establish and maintain regulatory compliance and safety policies as required by external regulatory agencies (e.g., Occupational Safety and Health Administration, The Joint Commission, College of American Pathologists, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments); provide safety and regulatory guidance to lab and medical personnel; represent the department as an active member of institutional safety and quality improvement committees; oversee department quality plans and all associated local quality initiatives including quality control studies for the accuracy of clinical data; monitor laboratory to ensure regulatory compliance and report findings to appropriate institutional and departmental administrative personnel; develop, coordinate, conduct, and maintain documentation of employee continuing education, safety education and training; and maintain records for Continuing Medical Education and employee competency, as required and in coordination with management, supervisors and human resources.
Education Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a closely related field.
Work Experience Requirements:
Four (4) years of professional work experience in medical laboratory science including experience with College of American Pathologists (CAP) laboratory regulations, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) laboratory regulations, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) laboratory regulations, and periodic safety assessments and drills; and four (4) years of experience with laboratory protocols and procedures including four (4) years of experience with each of the following: lab quality control, calibrations, lab maintenance, laboratory test performance, performing quality control (QC), calibrations, periodic maintenance, performance of a full range of laboratory tests, and safety infection control practices as defined by CAP and OSHA.
Additional Requirements:
Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP); and background check required."
