Structural Steel Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Northstar Logix Inc Irving, TX Job Details Full-time | Contract $60,000 - $80,000 a year 4 hours ago Qualifications Teamwork OSHA Assembly Manufacturing facility American Welding Society (AWS) standards Attention to detail Certified Welding Inspector Full Job Description Structural Steel / Miscellaneous Metals / Fabrication We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join our growing structural steel fabrication team. This position plays a critical role in ensuring all fabricated structural steel, miscellaneous metals, stair systems, railings, and welded assemblies meet project specifications, AWS standards, and quality requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on welding inspector who understands structural steel fabrication, shop operations, field installation, and quality control procedures in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Perform visual weld inspections on structural steel and miscellaneous metal fabrication Inspect weld quality to ensure compliance with AWS D1.1 and project specifications Review shop drawings, fabrication drawings, blueprints, and welding procedures Verify fit-up, dimensions, weld sizes, and material compliance Conduct inspections on beams, columns, stairs, handrails, platforms, mezzanines, railings, and custom metal fabrication Coordinate with shop supervisors, welders, fitters, and project managers to resolve quality issues Maintain inspection records, quality reports, and documentation Monitor fabrication processes and identify non-conformance issues Ensure fabrication meets AISC standards and customer requirements Assist with field inspections and installation quality verification when needed Support continuous improvement and safety initiatives within the fabrication shop Qualifications Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required 3+ years of experience in structural steel fabrication or miscellaneous metals Strong understanding of
AWS D1.1
welding codes and structural steel standards Experience inspecting MIG, FCAW, and stick welding processes Ability to read and interpret structural steel shop drawings and blueprints Knowledge of fabrication processes including cutting, fitting, welding, grinding, and assembly Familiarity with AISC standards and steel construction practices preferred Experience with stairs, railings, architectural metals, ornamental metals, or custom fabrication is a plus Strong communication and problem-solving skills Ability to work in a fabrication shop and field environment Preferred Experience Structural Steel Fabrication Miscellaneous Metals Steel Erection Welding Inspection Fabrication Quality Control Architectural Metals Industrial Welding Shop Inspection Steel Manufacturing Structural Welding QA/QC Inspection OSHA Safety Standards Blueprint Reading NDT Coordination Metal Fabrication Why Join Us?
