Job Description
The CAC Test Technician is responsible for executing controlled tests of energetic products used in oilfield applications, specifically within simulated downhole configurations that replicate velocity, impact, pressure, temperature, and fluid conditions encountered in actual wellbores. The technician ensures that all testing is carried out safely, accurately, and in accordance with internal procedures and industry regulations. Products tested may include cutters, detonators, boosters, detonating cord, power charges and shaped charges used in perforating systems.
Job Description and Responsibilities:
Complies with all applicable work instructions andHSE/QA ISO
procedures. Job may include performing work safely and efficiently around moving parts. Prepare and execute energetic tests in engineering developed downhole simulations. Assemble test configurations to test in electronic firing systems, pressure containment vessels and instrumentation. Set up and operate data acquisition systems, pressure transducers, temperature loggers and x-ray machine (as applicable). Accurately measure and document product performance and behaviors post-test within the Quality Control (QC) database provided in real-time. Strictly adheres to explosives safety procedures, including ATF/DOT regulations and company policies for handling, storage, and transport of energetic materials. Maintain a clean and organized environment, including housekeeping, preventive maintenance, and inventory tracking. Collaborate with Production, Engineering and R D teams to support product development and troubleshooting. Ensure calibration and verify test equipment is functioning properly to maintain accuracy and compliance. Participate in new hire training, additional area specific training, safety meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives.Education and Training:
High school diploma or the equivalent is required. General Requirements /Technical Requirements & Skills:
Safety conscious with critical thinking skills. Effective communication and team building skills. Ability to multitask in a high stress environment. Ability to perform basic measurement and conduct basic math. Competent in basic computer applications. Ability to read and follow detailed work instructions, engineering drawings, and safety procedures. Comfortable working in a structured, high-risk test environment with strict controls.Certificates, Licenses & Registrations:
Forklift Operation Certification preferred Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Training preferred Work Authorization /Security Clearance:
Able to meet ATF & regulatory security requirements. Must be US citizen, or lawful permanent resident of the United States, in accordance with ATF regulations. Physical Demands /Working Conditions:
Employees working in general manufacturing facilities must meet certain physical requirements to perform their duties safely and effectively. These typically include the ability to stand and walk for long periods, often throughout an entire shift. Workers should be able to lift, carry, and/or move up to 50 pounds occasionally when lifting devices are not present. Repetitive use of hands, wrists, and arms is common, along with regular bending, kneeling, and climbing. Visual and hearing acuity are necessary for reading instructions, inspecting products, and responding to equipment alerts, and manual dexterity is essential for operating tools and machinery. The working conditions in manufacturing environments can be physically demanding and vary based on the facility and type of production. Employees may be exposed to fluctuating temperatures, high noise levels, and potential hazards such as moving machinery, chemicals, or sharp objects. The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, safety glasses, ear protection, and steel-toed boots is often required. The work is typically fast paced with performance expectations to meet frequent deadlines. Schedules may involve shift work, overtime, weekends, or holiday hours to meet production demands.
