Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Inspection Lead to grow and lead the Inspection Department in our precision machine shop. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for developing the systems, policies, and processes that ensure consistent, high-quality output. The Inspection Manager will personally perform inspections, create inspection documentation, program and operate CMM and other metrology equipment, and maintain full traceability and compliance of all inspection activities. Key Responsibilities Department Leadership & Development Oversee daily operations of the Inspection Department. Develop, document, and continuously improve inspection systems, policies, and standard operating procedures. Part Inspection & Documentation Perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections of machined parts against engineering blueprints and specifications. Accurately record inspection results and maintain complete traceability. Inspection Planning Create detailed bubble (ballooned) drawings and comprehensive inspection plans for new parts and revisions. Metrology Equipment Operation & Management Program and operate CMM and supporting equipment including height gauges, digital/analog calipers, micrometers, thread gauges, Micro-Vu vision system, and other precision tools. Manage the calibration program, schedule, and records for all inspection equipment to ensure compliance and accuracy. Technical Expertise Utilize CAD software for drawing review, ballooning, and fixture design. Apply deep knowledge of machining processes and GD&T to interpret complex drawings and resolve quality issues. Design and implement custom inspection fixtures to improve efficiency and repeatability. Document Management & Communication Maintain organized inspection records, reports, and quality documentation. Communicate inspection results, non-conformances, and improvement opportunities clearly with production, engineering, and management teams. Multitask effectively in a fast-paced, high-mix manufacturing environment. Required Qualifications Minimum 5+ years of hands-on inspection experience in a precision machine shop or contract manufacturing environment. Strong CAD/CAM proficiency. Experience with machining processes, precision measurement techniques, and GD&T. Proven experience programming CMMs. Demonstrated ability to design inspection fixtures. Experience managing document control and calibration records. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with attention to detail. Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings. US citizen or permanent resident (required for ITAR certification) Preferred Qualifications Previous supervisory or lead experience in an inspection or quality department. Familiarity with ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality systems.
