Yates Gear uses Nylon webbing and heavy-duty textiles to manufacture fall protection harnesses for working at height. Products are certified to the ISO9001:2015 standard. The Heavy Sewing Machine Operator for the class 3 & 4 & 5 sewing machines is responsible for sewing and bartacking various products. This hands-on position requires sewing skills, initiative, and judgment in solving problems that might occur. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and take initiative. With the kit is a production order that details the quantity, cut parts, and hardware needed produce the product. The sewer does a quick inspection of the cut parts, sews them together to make the product, then a material handler takes the finished product to the assembly area while the sewer starts on the next production order. The sewing team is divided into 5 departments that each sew different families of products. Once a new sewer is comfortable in one department, they are encouraged to cross train in other departments to learn other products. Being able to sew more different products is rewarded during our annual performance review process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for sewing 3, 4, and 5-point patterns accurately; sewing 3 or more layers of webbing accurately. Operate all Bartacking machines and setup machines to include threading; top and bottom tension adjustment; bobbin adjustment; adjusting width and length of Bartack machine. Must be able to manually box stitch through 3-4 layers of material in our Class II and Class III harnesses. Must be able to identify all thread types and sizes by spool labels; 69, 92, 138, 207, 346, 415 Nylon, Polyester & Kevlar and use them correctly in each product. Assist with other duties as required or instructed by leadership.

Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent required. Manufacturing sewing experience preferred. Will train those with basic home sewing experience. The ability to communicate, read and write in the English Language is required. The ability to read a basic tape measure and understand basic math. Must be able to perform efficiently and effectively to meet close deadlines. Must be able to read drawings accurately, execute all sewing and marking procedures from patterns.

Visual ability including distance, peripheral and depth perception. Regularly required to talk and hear. Employees are required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel or crouch, or walk a minimum of 20%. Employees may be seated, at minimum, 60% of time working. Must be able to lift a minimum 35lbs and drag 70 lbs.
