Job Description
ROLE STATEMENT
The sample sewer is responsible for sewing and constructing sample dresses in their entirety at our in-house studio.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Sew full garments using industrial sewing equipment (plain machine, overlock, industrial steamer, etc) as well as hand-sewing
- Expert knowledge on garment finishing and techniques
- Sew muslins and tests as needed for review by the Technical Design team and Designer, and work with teams to make adjustments as needed
- Alter existing garments according to specifications for perfect fit
- Work with Pattern Maker, Cutter and Technical Designers to identify issues so corrections to the patterns can be made as needed
- Select and apply required trims according to the BOM specifications
- Press and steam samples to finish
- Maintain a clean and orderly workspace
- Coordinate the sharing of equipment as needed
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS
- Strong attention to fit, proportion and detail
- Extensive knowledge of fabric, grainlines, and garment construction
- Ability to achieve deadlines
- Detail oriented
- Demonstrates high degree of professionalism in communication and teamwork with customers, peers and management
- Maintain a positive demeanor
- Demonstrates high level of quality work, attendance and appearance
- Upholds and maintains confidentiality and professionalism in all levels of communication at all times
- Ability to be flexible and willing to work extended hours when necessary
- Able to sit for long periods of time
- Reading and speaking proficient in English
- 5+ years of experience in sample sewing with focus on
