Job Summary:
The Boiler Operator is responsible for safely operating and maintaining high-pressure boilers and related utility systems to support continuous plant operations. This role requires daily application of multiple maintenance and craft skill sets, including troubleshooting, repair, and monitoring of boilers, water systems, air compressors, and other utilities. The Boiler Operator works closely with the Production and Maintenance teams to ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and operational standards. Duties and Responsibilities:
Operate and monitor multiple high-pressure boilers (200 HP or larger) in accordance with regulations, SOPs, and safety standards. Perform daily checks to ensure boiler safety systems are functioning properly; immediately escalate or shut down equipment if unsafe conditions are identified. Complete assigned preventive maintenance (PMs) and work orders (WOs) with thorough documentation of findings and parts used. Troubleshoot and repair utility equipment, including pumps, valves, probes, gearboxes, bearings, motors, and water treatment systems. Monitor water softener, filtration, and chemical treatment systems to ensure safe and effective operation. Maintain, inspect, and troubleshoot air compressors, dryers, and cooling/heating systems. Respond promptly to utility-related issues and radio calls to support safety, quality, and production needs. Maintain daily logs of inspections, events, and maintenance activities to ensure continuity across shifts. Support cross-functional teams with utility-related concerns affecting safety, quality, or production. Read and interpret safety manuals, maintenance procedures, and technical prints. Maintain cleanliness of boiler room and utility areas. Respond to emergencies, including fire, evacuation, or equipment/power failures. Serve as a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT). Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum 4 years' experience operating and maintaining boilers of 200 HP or larger. Unlimited L.A. County Steam License/Unlimited Steam Engineer License required. 3+ years' experience in a high-speed food manufacturing or industrial environment preferred. Mechanical knowledge and hands-on experience with pumps, valves, gearboxes, and piping. Basic electrical knowledge (breakers, VFDs, motors, motor starters, sensors, wiring). Strong organizational, problem-solving, and prioritization skills. Excellent communication skills in English; bilingual (Spanish) preferred. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Physical Requirements:
Work performed in a manufacturing/utility environment with exposure to noise, heat (up to 115°F), and chemicals. Must be able to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel-toe shoes. Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and manual handling of tools and parts. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. on occasion. Ability to work extended hours, weekends, or holidays as needed. Must maintain mental alertness, focus, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Pay:
