Full Job Description Boiler Controls Design Engineer New Haven, CT Compensation:
$90,000 to $150,000 per year This industrial steam plant control system integrator located near New Haven, CT is seeking an experienced electrical engineer for the design of combustion control and burner management systems. The company was founded in 1972 as a power plant combustion control service organization and has grown into a regional leader in sales, installation, and startup of industrial boiler control systems, instrumentation, and capital equipment. Customers are located primarily in NY, NJ, and New England, and include hospitals, universities, institutions, utilities, and major manufacturers with central high pressure steam or high temperature hot water generating facilities. Schedule Full-time. Regional travel required to support factory testing, installation supervision, and field commissioning. Compensation $90,000 to $150,000 per year. What You'll Do The Boiler Controls Design Engineer reviews project specifications to ensure compliance with customer requirements and creates control system wiring diagrams and logic diagrams using AutoCAD. This role programs various Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and touch screen operator interfaces to perform required control algorithms, typically using Allen Bradley CompactLogix and ControlLogix processors, along with solutions on other processor platforms as needed. This position also programs loop controllers for combustion control systems, typically Siemens 353s, Preferred PCCIIIs, and Yokogawa YS1700s, and performs SCADA system programming, typically using Proficy iFIX and Wonderware. Additional responsibilities include selecting instrumentation for flow, pressure, and temperature measurement applications, providing technical support to the company's sales efforts, and generating technical submittals, operator training instructions, and Operations and Maintenance manuals. This role also supports control system fabrication, commissioning, and startup activities, which may involve factory testing of control cabinets, supervision of installation, troubleshooting, calibration, loop testing, safety limit testing, and combustion testing alongside field service engineers. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field 5+ years of PLC programming experience 5+ years of AutoCAD experience Prior PLC programming experience with platforms such as Allen Bradley CompactLogix or ControlLogix Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of boilers, burners, controls, and instrumentation (training available for the right candidate) Experience with loop controllers such as Siemens 353, Preferred PCCIII, or Yokogawa YS1700 Experience with SCADA platforms such as Proficy iFIX or Wonderware Experience supporting field commissioning, startup, or combustion testing activities Compensation and Benefits $90,000 to $150,000 per year Medical insurance Disability insurance Pension Expense account To apply, please submit your resume for consideration.
