$36.00-$47.00 per hour , depending on qualifications, certifications, and experience Job Summary We are seeking experienced and qualified Stationary Engineers to provide temporary staffing support for powerhouse operations at Menard Correctional Center in Chester, Illinois. This position is responsible for the safe operation, monitoring, maintenance, and repair of boilers, steam systems, HVAC equipment, and related mechanical systems that support the facility's critical infrastructure. Successful candidates will work under the direction of the Chief Stationary Engineer and play a key role in ensuring continuous operation of heating, hot water, and utility systems throughout the facility. Key Responsibilities Operate, monitor, and maintain high-pressure and low-pressure boilers and associated auxiliary equipment. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on boilers, pumps, compressors, valves, piping systems, and related mechanical equipment. Monitor and maintain steam generation and distribution systems. Conduct boiler water testing, treatment, and chemical feed adjustments. Perform routine inspections and safety checks on powerhouse equipment. Monitor operating conditions and respond to alarms, emergencies, and equipment malfunctions. Maintain accurate operating logs, maintenance records, and shift reports. Assist with HVAC systems, chillers, cooling towers, and air handling equipment. Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, and other OSHA safety procedures. Coordinate shift turnover and communicate operational status to incoming personnel. Perform additional duties related to powerhouse operations as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Minimum 4 years of experience operating and maintaining industrial boilers, power plant systems, or similar mechanical systems. Demonstrated experience with high-pressure and/or low-pressure steam boiler operations. Knowledge of boiler controls, water treatment systems, pumps, compressors, and HVAC equipment. Ability to read gauges, technical manuals, schematics, and operating procedures. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and in a secure institutional environment. Preferred Qualifications Stationary Engineer License or Certification. OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) training. Confined Space training. Boiler Operator certifications. Experience in correctional, industrial, manufacturing, power generation, healthcare, or institutional facilities. Requirements Must successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation. Must be eligible to work within a correctional facility environment. Must maintain all required certifications throughout employment. Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, lift equipment, and perform physically demanding work. Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required.
