Aluminum Die Cast Remelt / Furnace TechnicianPosition Summary We are seeking a reliable, safety-focused Aluminum Die Cast Remelt / Furnace Technician to join our manufacturing team. This position is responsible for the safe operation of aluminum melting and holding furnaces, material handling, furnace cleaning and maintenance, scrap and alloy management, and supporting production requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to workplace safety, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a hot industrial environment. Previous experience with furnaces, foundry operations, forklift operation, manufacturing, metals processing, or industrial equipment is preferred but not required. We provide comprehensive on-the-job training for all aspects of the role. Essential ResponsibilitiesFurnace Operations Operate aluminum remelt and holding furnaces safely and efficiently. Load aluminum ingots, returns, runners, gates, and approved scrap materials into furnaces according to established procedures. Monitor furnace temperatures, melt quality, and metal levels to ensure production requirements are met. Maintain proper alloy chemistry and assist with alloy additions as directed. Follow melt schedules and production plans to ensure continuous metal supply. Perform routine furnace inspections and identify potential equipment issues. Maintain accurate production, temperature, and material usage records. Communicate furnace status and production needs with supervisors and production personnel. Material Handling & Forklift Operation Safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment. Transport raw materials, scrap, finished products, and production supplies throughout the facility. Load and unload trucks, trailers, and storage areas as needed. Maintain organized material storage areas and inventory locations. Conduct pre-shift forklift inspections and report equipment concerns. Follow all traffic patterns, pedestrian safety requirements, and material handling procedures. Furnace Cleaning & Maintenance Clean furnaces, crucibles, charging areas, and surrounding workspaces according to established schedules. Remove dross, slag, and other byproducts from melting operations. Assist with refractory inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance activities. Perform routine housekeeping to maintain a clean and organized work environment. Use proper tools and procedures when cleaning hot equipment and work areas. Support maintenance personnel during furnace shutdowns and repairs. Production Support Supply molten aluminum to casting operations as required. Monitor metal quality and report abnormalities. Assist with inventory management of alloys, fluxes, and consumables. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, and productivity. Support team members and other departments as needed to meet production goals. Safety Responsibilities (Highest Priority) Safety is the most important responsibility of this position. Employees must demonstrate a commitment to safe work practices at all times. Safety Expectations Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and lockout/tagout requirements. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including heat-resistant clothing, face shields, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe footwear, and other required gear. Maintain constant awareness of molten metal hazards and high-temperature environments. Safely handle hot materials, tools, and equipment. Follow proper charging procedures to prevent moisture-related molten metal explosions. Conduct pre-shift equipment inspections and report unsafe conditions immediately. Participate in safety meetings, training sessions, and safety improvement initiatives. Maintain clean work areas to prevent slips, trips, and falls. Follow forklift safety standards and operate equipment responsibly. Understand emergency response procedures and evacuation plans. Report all incidents, injuries, near misses, and safety concerns promptly. Stop work and notify supervision when unsafe conditions exist. QualificationsRequired High school diploma or GED preferred. Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Strong attendance and reliability. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to perform physical labor and work around heat. Preferred (Not Required) Experience operating melting, remelt, or holding furnaces. Foundry, die casting, metal processing, or manufacturing experience. Forklift certification or prior forklift experience. Experience with industrial equipment, maintenance, or material handling. Knowledge of aluminum alloys and melting processes. Experience working in high-temperature industrial environments. No prior furnace experience is required. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and perform repetitive motions. Ability to work in hot, dusty, and industrial environments. Ability to wear required PPE throughout the work shift. Ability to safely operate forklifts and other industrial equipment after training.
