Job Description

The Furnace Operator is responsible to ensure the remelt and holding furnaces are maintained and operational at all times, ensuring that quality metals flow to the die cast operations as needed. machines to for continuous casting operations through proper loading, cleaning and maintaining metal furnaces, and assisting in the die cast operations as needed. In addition to maintaining furnace operations, the furnace operator will provide technical assistance in the use of equipment, facilities, and team members in order to meet all safety, production, quality, and departmental goals and requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follows prescribed safety procedures. Fill remelt furnace with scrap and ingot. Clean remelt and holding furnaces. Detect and report improper conditions, faulty equipment and defective material. Remove scrap containers from cast and trim area. Transfer molten metal into bull ladles. Delivers molten metal to individual furnace via forklift. Place alloy bars on the back of holding furnaces. Perform necessary adjustments to temperature controls per instructions and procedures. Detect, report, and troubleshoot improper operations, faulty equipment, defective materials and conditions. Skim dross off tops of molten metal Clean holding furnaces. Moves material with forklift as directed. Pull metal samples. Identify alloys per furnaces and perform alloy change overs. Maintain a clean and orderly work area. Provide direct assistance to die cast manager in all aspects of the die cast facility.
Position Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. on a routine basis and work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements
  • Must possess basic knowledge of manufacturing equipment
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and achieve results
  • Must be detail oriented; possess superb follow up skills
  • Must have ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced work environment
  • Must be able to pass a drug test
Working Conditions:
Work performed in manufacturing and processing site. Work in areas of high temperature levels, near furnaces and heated metals. Moderate to loud noise levels Standing for long periods on concrete or other hard surfaces; walking over rough and uneven terrain Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting and climbing Frequent use of ladders and steps for accessing equipment Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs with or without assistance Frequent use of hands for simple grasping, pushing, pulling, manipulating tools/objects, and written/typing. Exposure to all outdoor weather conditions Frequent exposure to substances, including but not limited to: industrial chemicals, hydraulic fluid, grease, oil and dirt.
