STATIONARY ENGINEER
________________________________________________________________________________________ Current annual salary: $39,814.18 Eff. 7/1/26 $42,203.03 Hours are from 2:00pm-10:00pm
EXAMPLES OF WORK
(Illustrative only) Operates and repairs steam and/or hot water boilers, electric pumps and motors; Fires and cleans boilers Repairs valve traps and convection heaters Inspects heating system for defects and inefficient operations and makes necessary repairs; Checks water columns, valves, pumps, steam gauges and safety devices; Washes windows, paints walls and furniture, scrubs and waxes floors; Mows lawns, shovels snow from walks; Maintains a continuous record of plant operations; Inspects, oils and greases electrical equipment; Maintains complete inventory of supplies and equipment for budgeting purposes; Performs various other building maintenance tasks as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or possession of a New York State High School Equivalency Diploma AND A. Two years of experience in the operation of a steam and/or hot water heating plant, OR B. Any equivalent combination of experience and training sufficient to indicate ability to do the work.
Note:
Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements. The provisionally appointed candidate will have to take and pass a NYS Civil Service exam to be held on a future date, and be reachable on the resulting eligible list.
