Job Summary:
Constructs, operates, or tends heating equipment such as heat-treating furnaces, or vacuum equipment to braze, temper, harden and anneal. Furnace Operator is an entry level position with no certification required. The purpose for an operator at this level is to learn and gain a basic understanding of brazing and heat treat operations. Operators must obtain a basic level knowledge to set up and operate a variety of vacuum, deep freeze, draw and hardness test equipment necessary to produce precision parts with direct supervision by a certified furnace operator (level II or above). Follow established standard work under general supervision in efforts to obtain certification. Must be able to be FAR145 certified. The operator will typically refer to problems or deviations to more experienced operators including Lead Technicians, supervisors or engineers. External candidates will receive a $1,000 sign on bonus. What You Will Do Load, unload and monitor furnaces runs. Inspect parts that have been brazed. Understand and follow quality testing techniques. Learn how to read and understand prints so that inspection and alloy placement can be understood. Demonstrate proficiency in Manufacturing Documentation and Labor Transactions. Support and follow all rules/guidelines/standards set by EHS, Quality, and CI functions as set by your leader and position. Works under immediate supervision. Normally receives detailed instructions on all work. Develops basic job skills and learns company policies and procedures to complete routine tasks. Tasks are routine/ repetitive in nature, requiring limited judgment. Has little or no role in decision-making. Actively participate in the Continuous Improvement process as well as safety related activities. Over 40 hours per week as scheduled to meet business needs. All other duties as assigned including working extended shifts/overtime as required by the business. Willingness to work nonstandard hours. Some Holiday hours may be required based on business need. Working extended shifts/overtime as required by the business. The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 3:30pm - 12:00am. Training however will be the first 2-3 months Monday through Friday, 7am - 3:30pm. What You Will Learn This position is an opportunity to start your career and grow with Collins. Qualifications You Must Have Typically requires HS diploma (or equivalent, e.g. G.E.D. in the US) or vocational/technical education in related discipline. Qualifications We Prefer Prior furnace monitoring experience. Manual dexterity to perform tasks associated with furnace operations including fine, detailed manipulation of small tools. Experience with small hand tools and equipment such as microscopes, braze alloy applicators and hardness testers. Experience with interpreting documentation commonly used in manufacturing like blueprints and specifications. Basic shop math including knowledge of Geometric Tolerances. Basic proficiency with identifying, analyzing and resolving problems.
