Job Description

Position Summary We are seeking a reliable and safety-focused Boiler Operator (Fireman) to join our team on the second shift. In this role, you will be responsible for the safe operation, monitoring, and maintenance of boiler systems during assigned shifts. You will play a critical role in ensuring efficient plant utility operations by performing inspections, testing, cleaning, and maintaining accurate documentation while upholding all safety and operational standards. Key Responsibilities Monitor boiler systems to ensure safe operating levels of water, pressure, and temperature Maintain and monitor plant air pressure systems Oversee water pressure for boiler feed-water pumps and pumphouse supply Collect daily boiler water samples and perform chemical testing Test and maintain water softeners, including checking hardness and refilling salt Perform routine maintenance such as raking boilers, washing tubes, and removing ash Load sawdust trailers and clear piping systems during plant downtime Conduct regular facility walk-throughs during non-operational hours Monitor areas requiring hot work permits to ensure compliance and safety Maintain a clean, organized, and safe boiler room and work environment Perform additional duties as assigned
Schedule:
The second shift boiler operator works 6 days on, 2 days off.
Shift Hours:
1:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. Qualifications High school diploma or GED preferred Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office or similar systems) Flexibility to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and overtime Physical Requirements Frequent standing, walking, and use of hands for handling equipment Ability to climb stairs and ladders and perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, and crouching Ability to work in industrial environments with noise and varying temperatures Clear communication and hearing ability in noisy settings Vision sufficient to safely operate equipment Ability to lift and move materials up to 70 pounds Work Environment This position operates in an industrial plant environment and requires adherence to strict safety procedures. The role may involve exposure to heat, dust, noise, and mechanical systems.
