Full Job Description Job Title:
Tooling Technician Evaluates tooling for capability and makes repairs as needed. Request work orders when tools require repair. Maintains tool preparation schedule. Maintains tooling in storage and on racks. Repairs, sharpens, and troubleshoots dies, and other production tooling. Makes component parts and/or modifications within scope of training and ability. Be able to read and understand blueprints
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures that stamping tools are prepared to run production for production jobs, Evaluates condition of tools from inventory prior to issuing to production, and follows "orange tag" preparation schedule. Documents troublesome dies for root cause evaluation. Makes repairs to tools as instructed or as needed; sharpening; adjusting alignment cleaning and lubricating, etc., as measured by the number of repairs that fail to run after being repaired and are returned to the toolroom for additional repair. Review detailed work order instructions and comply with the provisions of the document. Make Work Order notes per instructions. Record number of hits, root cause of failure, corrective action and preventive action Measure, mark and scribe metal stock for machining when repairing tools. Verify dimensions, alignments and clearances. Troubleshoot dies, tools, jigs and fixtures recommending modifications or repairs as requested by production department, as measured by co-worker's and supervisor's evaluation of troubleshooting contribution. Inspect all new tooling, record inspection data, and test hit dies prior to inspection, as recorded by completion of inspection sheets for every new tool and filing of the sheet in the WO packet. Organize and maintain tool storage racks, as measured by the number of times that tools cannot be located, or when problems with bin locations occur. 5S Tool racks Issue new tool bin locations, maintain tool bin locations, advises changes in bin locations. Comply with all Rippy and regulatory Safety requirements, as measured by supervisor's evaluation of ongoing safety compliance. Maintain a clean work environment, as measured by supervisor's evaluation of safety compliance.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
• May work with staff from other departments. • Responsible for following up on returning tools to their proper location accurately. Clean and lubricate machines. Other duties as directed by immediate supervisor or Company manager. Uses experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or higher; or 1-3 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Familiar with shop measuring device such as Micrometers and Vernier calipers. Must have experience with general machining - turning, milling, and grinding Must have general disassembly and assembly experience and hand tools. Experience with tool and die a plus. Experience in AS9100 shop a plus Experience
CNC, CMM
is a plus Reads blue prints and understands geometric tolerances. Proficient in the use of standard measurement tools, such as micrometer, caliper, dial indicator and optical comparator, and are capable of obtaining accurate results using these tools.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must be able to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Able to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
