Our New Britain, CT facility specializes in custom tooling, fixtures, and precision components that directly support aerospace manufacturing and inspection. Position Overview We are seeking an experienced CNC Toolmaker to support custom, low-volume aerospace tooling and fixture manufacturing . This is not a production machinist role . The ideal candidate is a true toolmaker who can take ownership of tooling from print review through final prove-out , working independently in a prototype and development environment. This role requires strong machining fundamentals, deep understanding of fit/function, and the ability to problem-solve tooling challenges with minimal supervision. Key Responsibilities Build, modify, and repair custom tooling, fixtures, gauges, and precision components for aerospace applications. Interpret complex blueprints, GD&T, and engineering intent to determine machining approach and tolerances. Independently plan machining processes , select tooling, and determine setups for one-off and short-run builds. Set up and machine complex parts on 3- and 4-axis CNC mills and lathes (horizontal and vertical). Perform precision operations including milling, turning, boring, threading, grinding, and hand-fitting as required. Troubleshoot tooling issues, dimensional challenges, and design changes during build and prove-out. Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to refine tooling designs and improve functionality. Perform inspections using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators, and other precision measurement tools. Maintain equipment, tooling, and work area in accordance with safety and quality standards. Required Qualifications 5+ years of Toolmaker or Tool & Die experience in a tooling, prototype, or R D environment. Demonstrated experience building custom fixtures, tooling, or gauges (not production machining). Ability to work independently from print with minimal instruction. Strong GD&T interpretation and precision measurement skills. Experience setting up CNC machines from scratch (no production runners). U.S. Citizenship required due to ITAR restrictions. Preferred Qualifications Aerospace tooling experience. CNC programming experience (Mastercam preferred) or the ability to modify programs. Manual machining background (mills, lathes, grinders). Experience supporting first-article, development, or engineering builds. Why Join Cyient?
