In this role, you will be required to interpret design schematics, cut, and shape parts, and assemble the completed parts. The successful candidate should have in-depth knowledge of metalwork and engineering, a good eye for detail, and the ability to visualize structural components.
Tool and Die Maker Responsibilities:
Set up and operate tool room equipment such as manual lathe, manual milling machine, radial drill press, and grinders and machine parts to specifications and verify conformance to specifications. Study blueprints and product die models, templates and prototype parts and visualizes shape, mechanical structure, and operation of molds. Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators. Fits and assembles all mold components and dismantles molds to repair or replace parts, if applicable. Recommend design changes to new and existing tools and molds. Design jigs and templates as work aids in the fabrication of parts. Cutting and shaping blocks to specified dimensions. Inspecting finished molds and tools for defects, smoothness, and contour deformities. Conducting test runs with completed tools and components. Fabricate production equipment, fixtures, support frames, benches, shelving, etc. Maintain tooling inventory by notifying supervisor in writing of parts needed. Keep accurate records on all applicable documentation. Perform other duties as assigned.
Tool and Die Maker Requirements:
  • Technical training or appropriate schooling and course work.
  • Experience working as a Tool and Die Maker.
  • Mechanical knowledge of fixtures, bearings, hydraulics, pneumatics, etc. Ability to setup and operate machining equipment, able to operate small machines, power tools, lathes, and mills, etc.
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, design schematics, and CAD drawings.
  • In-depth knowledge of machine tools and their uses.
  • Extensive experience with metalworking tools including drills, milling machines, grinders, and lathes.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and operate large machinery.
  • Experience with quality control analysis.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills.
  • Understanding and practical application of measurements (ruler, micrometers, scales) and math (fractions, decimals, Trigonometry).
  • Good planning and organizational skills.
  • Solid understanding of machining processes and materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and communicate with all organization levels.
  • Ability to manually program and run CNC machines a plus.
