Job Title:
Tool and Die Maker Job Description The Tool and Die Maker sets up and operates manual tool room machinery to build, repair, and maintain dies and related tooling. This role disassembles and inspects tools, performs precision repairs and sharpening, assembles dies and sub-assemblies according to drawings, and conducts final inspections of parts produced. The position also supports overall equipment maintenance, documentation, and other assigned tasks while working efficiently on multiple priorities in a production environment. Responsibilities Set up and operate all manual tool room machinery, including grinders, lathes, mills, and related tools and equipment. Disassemble dies to inspect, assess condition, and identify required repairs or adjustments. Repair and sharpen dies according to specifications to ensure optimal performance and product quality. Assemble dies and sub-assemblies in accordance with engineering drawings and specifications. Perform final inspection of parts produced from tools and dies to verify dimensional accuracy and quality standards. Use tool room measuring equipment to verify dimensions and tolerances throughout the build and repair process. Complete overall equipment maintenance tasks and related documentation as assigned by supervision. Follow established procedures and safety practices while working with machinery and tooling. Handle multiple assigned tasks and prioritize work to meet production and maintenance schedules. Perform other related duties as required to support tool room and production operations. Essential Skills Minimum of three (3) years of tool and die experience. TMA certificate or equivalent qualification in tool and die or a closely related field. Proficiency in setting up and operating manual grinders, lathes, mills, and other tool room machinery. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings. Skilled in using all standard tool room measuring equipment to verify dimensions and tolerances. Ability to handle multiple assigned tasks and manage priorities effectively. Capability to lift up to 35 lbs as part of daily duties. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in machining and die setup in a production or tool room environment. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, precise work. Solid troubleshooting skills for diagnosing die and tooling issues. Good documentation habits for maintenance and repair records. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a tool room and production team. Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a first-shift position with typical hours from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The role is based in a tool room and production facility that uses manual grinders, lathes, mills, and a full range of measuring equipment. The work involves standing, operating machinery, handling tools, and lifting up to 35 lbs. The environment is hands-on and production-focused, with an emphasis on safety, accuracy, and adherence to established procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Northbrook, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $38.00/hr.
